R34 GTR to RS6 now considering GTR

So a few years ago I was lucky to have car number 12 of only 80 of the r34 GTR vspecs which were sold as uk cars after a few extra coolers were added. It was a great car and during that time I test drove a GTR when they first came out which was a step up.
Unfortunately I sold the car to a lad who flew over from Stuttgart and after a small time In a 2.5quattto a4 settled on a c5 rs6. Reason being the sound of them and practicality of an estate as we moved house and now have a child.
Looking back the r34 would never fit the pram we bought or the quad he rides about in the boot.

My rs6 ownership has been very testing with everything going wrong:
DRC replaced with billstein pss9s
All control arms changed trying to find a knocking noise
Gearbox rebuild after clutch pack failure
Leaking oil cooler pipes
Now a abs controls module

The price of GTRs are coming down to a value where I'd be tempted, however I'm quite keen on avoiding any large bills for a while.

Has anyone went fella rs6 to GTR? What did they find they miss the most?
Are most repairs 1k and engine out jobs like a rs6 haha

My other option is to consider a r8 but that would mean buying the wife a bigger car or putting seats in my caddy van to make it a family car. But after previously owning a GTR there's just something that wants me to go back to Japanese... Also the fact that JM imports who have an absolute monster GTR are on my door step where as unit20 and MRC are miles away from me.

Never had an rs6 but I've had a gtr for the last 7 months great car but bills aren't small if things go wrong and the consumables are expensive as well

Gtr interior is a nicer place to be over my b7. Only thing that lets the gtr down is the shitty radio control it looks cheap and tacky but the rest is superb all imo

How old is the little-un now?
Space in the back of a GTR is "tight" at best and whilst car seats do fit it's not the best.

I think the key is to work out what you want first from the car. Fast? Handling? road legal fun?

Thanks for the comments, he's just turned 1... But may not be the last which could make me keep the rs6 longer

So going to be in a group 0/1 sear for a while. Tricky. Not sure how well they fit as they are quite big.
The other thing that always makes me think about 2 door cars is the whole "what if" scenario. Swmbo has a mini cooper s and that is much easier to get in and out of the back but even still it's "not great". Can't really beat a 2nd set of doors.

I would say that the best thing is if you can split into two cars. Go for a functional cheap diesel 4 door car and then use the excess funds to go for something 2 door and sporty.

If it's possible your little one won't be the last, why not keep the RS6? You had all the major stuff sorted and should be good for a number of years. The ABS module, well that's unlucky but isn't it the same as any other ABS module on any quattro A6?

Adsgreen I use a caddy van during the week so getting another car on top of the rs6 replacement would be a no go.

I think the abs control module is a different bosch unit for the rs6. I think your right though, give it a few years as everything that needed to be done has been and I would never get that money back so may aswell enjoy it! - they do look like a lot of fun though!

... Yeah it was pretty awesome, but selling it paid for my wedding at the time. Rs6 was a lot cheaper... Little did I know it would cost more in the long run after repairs!

I did C5 RS6 plus to R35 GT-R.

Cons: No V8 sound. I can't take the GT-R to the tip. Don't want to use the GT-R in the snow.
Pros: GT-R rocks. My 2 kids 5 and 6 love it (isofix in the rear).

Going to buy a Q7 to replace the RS4 as the GT-R is a little noisy for long runs and I need a 6 seater.

I have both. Stage 2 C5+ and MY13 GTR. Chalk and cheese just about covers it.

Audi is a torque monster, that just wafts about effortlessly, is refined, roomy and comfortable for a family of four with all their baggage. Interior build and materials are worlds apart. But, it's heavy and feels it, handles like a barge and is very remote as a drivers tool.

GTR is manic in contrast, feels very mechanical with clonks and whirrs from the rear mounted gearbox, but bliss to drive fast on a twisty road, good feedback, great dynamics and amazing grip and poise. But it ain't no family car. Rear seats are tiny with no leg room whatsoever, access to rear for putting kids in and out is a faff and means moving the electric seats each time. Ride is very firm and bouncy, with lots of road noise and interior materials are typical low rent jap crap, with rattles out of the box. It even has carpeted doors harping back to the eighties! :-(. But there ain't much that will catch one from A to B! I wouldn't have one as a daily or family car though, certainly not instead of the RS6.

If I could only have one car it would have to be the RS...

Mart.
