Going from the RS6 - GTR would i regret it?

Post by rob8457 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:25 pm

As per title, really thinking of getting a GTR 2010 version around the £40k mark, questions would i regret it? What would the depreciation be? How is the reliability on the GTR? What would be the running costs compared to the RS6? Would it hold its value better?

I'd rather have a 997TT. The GTR specific questions aren't really our speciality, but maybe PhilT can help you with them. I'm sure you will love the GTR and doubt you would regret it, it is a much more modern car vs the C5 RS 6 and laps the ring faster than a Veyron!

£6-7k I'd expect the px value. :(

Again, have you thought about the 997 Turbo?

I am the same. Something about Porsche I dont like, and before anyone asks, yes I have driven the C4s and the turbo.
I love drag racing and track racing. I have had many fast cars and below is a short list of the ones most memorable.

MR2 Turbo REV2 (standard) > MR2 Turbo REV1 300HP> MR2 Turbo REV3 450HP (Nick Name Biscuit tin) > Celica GT4 ST205 WRC 300HP > R32 GTR 425HP > Honda Integra DC2 (standard) > EVO GSR 300HP > R32 GTR 450HP

Now on the hunt for an RS6

Yep I considered a 997T, for about 1second.

Fast yes. But no soul. No sound, look boring, terrible image and a mapped C6 is quicker.

That power, handling and build quality for the money is the upside though, plus they hold their values quite well. A C6 does not handle well and will probably loose more money, plus if comparing tuned 0-60 and 1/4 mile times of a stage 2 997TT are quite a bit quicker than a stage 2 C6. An R8 V10 does seem to have it all but it's out of my budget, for now.

There are 4 RS in my group of friends - 2 gen 1s (orange and green) and 2 gen 2s (white and grey)
There are also 3 GTRs ranging from only 650bhp through 1200 and climaxing at an estimate 1500bhp

To be fair they are 2 very differant cars, Power wise you wont be dissapointed with the gtr, the launch is brutal off the line and the surge of power is ridiculus plus if you get bored your never gonna be short of upgrades! search alpha 12 kit on YouTube that gtr is epicly quick and not overly expensive considering

But practicality wise and all round bang for buck theres not much that comes close to the big 6 unless you get a roof rack you wont be able to do 0-60 in under 5 with a dishwasher in tow!!!

Think you find the alpha 12s are quite expensive!

Two bigger power GTRs that I referred to in my post have had between £100-200k spent on them!

100k for a car that out accelerates a car worth 1.2 million seems pretty cheap to me
