Focus RS is not what I'd call a quick car.
Evo's can be deceptive - ironically it's the older ones that are a bit more mental.
I've driven a Evo VI (I think - I lose track) RS Extreme. No interior, slick tyres and a modest power boost.
Maybe not the fastest in a straight line but the setup was perfect for slicks and if you could keep them up to temperature you hardly needed to brake.

Nice drive but not my thing... almost too good. I like my track cars to move about. You get a bog standard caterham on the right type of track and you won't be noticing any lack of power through the biggest grin ever.

Gtr is an incredible car. While in theory the numbers say it should be close, a 2011 -2012 gtr with a good tune and any exhaust mods will put a serious hurt on an r8 5.2 with similar mods in any race. I am talking bus lengths. Stock for stock it will also not be close.

I have seen a 5.2 at the dragstrip and same night there were two Gtrs and sadly it wasn't close. R8 ran low twelves all night at 117-119 mph while the stock gtr ran mid elevens at similar mph...and the "just a tune" 2009 gtr was 11.1 all night long at approximately 125-127 mph.

Still I would take the r8 5.2 ten times out of ten. Far more style, charisma and gottahaveit factor.

Not off the line it isn't. Mid range maybe, I'll just have to take your word for that.

Yeah thats fine mate. And I have to agree with you about the GTR being amazingly quick. I was just ssaying that DKs comment was quite flippant considering he does not even know if the other cars were modded. Peace

Sometimes you can't tell how modded some motors are. I saw a pug 106 destroy a BMW 330 the other day, hilarious as the BMW driver was trying quite hard as I was following and the revs I needed to keep up I could tell me was flat out.

This.
Nickyboy wrote:My god that thing is like nothing else. It went past Evo's, focus RS', and other quick cars like they weren't moving.
The OP didn't need to mention if the EVO or FRS were standard, he merely observed that these cars were being passed by the GT-R "like they weren't moving".
It doesn't take a genius to guess that these were either bog standard or in a very mild state of tune, ergo, DK's statement "Evo and Focus RS arent really fair game". It's not an inflammatory statement, it's just the perceived level where these cars sit within a pecking order. Also, a 600HP EVO isn't a stage 2 like the 600HP GT-R happens to be. The EVO will need cams, larger turbo, injectors, pumps, anti-lag, flywheel, clutch, inters (some might argue that you need rods, pistons, head studs and head work for a trackable 600HP EVO6). IIRC the GT-R only really needs a Cobb AccessPort, a deCAT, Y-Pipe and maybe some injectors and inters. Again, the tune stages proving where these cars sit within an automotive pecking order.

GT-R vs. EVO/FRS = mismatch.

Be interesting to see what the gtr is like over non tarmac surfaces. EVO off road (even just on dirt) is frankly astounding.

GT-R vs EVO is not a mismatch on a track. :bigblink:

Will you lot stop going on about these tame GTRs

650 BHP on slicks

and active wing

was more than capable of keeping up with GT2RS

and racing 458

around Spa

If 650BHP isn't enough lets try 950

Image

and yes that is a real carbon fibre replacement roof

Image

950BHP not enough lets start thinking about 1200-1300 then

Being picked up for work to start

Re the Evos watching them on track at Silverstone in the wet with DK and Nudenut, they are a real handful, and there were many many spins by them including one totalled on the pit straight. I don't think they are all that. The guy with the black GTR above, his Mrs has an Evo and describes it as a bit of pup compared to the GTR

On another note, the guy with the black GTR actually got so bored of the car he has sold it and replaced it with Gen II 997 RS becasue he actually found the GTR too dull to drive fast because it would do everything for you.

I can sympathise with that. But hey, I'm no pro racer and I'm happy with a car that's more capable than me :)
