Porsche sweet spot?

Post by don0301 » Fri Feb 14, 2020 1:16 pm

As the title.

Starting to think about getting a new car, and having never had a Porsche would love any advice on where you guys think the "sweet spot" is in the range?

Budget probably up to £80k, not sure I could handle spending more than that on a car.

No criteria other than I enjoy driving it, presently have a C6 RS6 stage 2, so similar performance hopefully.

Tried to express interest with my local dealer, but with them showing no interest back, wondering where I should be looking before trying to get test drives.

Any advice welcome.

TIA

So presumably you’re looking at used given the performance ask.

Gen one 991 turbos can be had for circa 80-90k. And if performance akin to stage two RS6 is the ask then that’s the car you’d need to be looking at.

If you’re looking at something different, then gen one or two GTS is worth a look. Will out handle any RS6 but won’t have the same straight line poke.

You’ll need to enquire on and be serious about a specific used car for a dealer to sit up. Reality is, unless you already have a relationship with a dealer, they don’t know you from Adam and they will see many a day dreamer.

Thanks for that

Yes used, I've never had a "new" new car.

I usually keep a car a long time, as long as a) it's reliable b) I enjoy driving it.

I've been very lucky, having never had any real problems with any car I've had....touch wood.

With the budget I have it's probable I will go main dealer, and Porsche warranty for peace of mind.

I'm in no rush, which is probably why my local dealer didn't chase me, just trying to get some ideas what I should be focusing on.

Where are you based ?

Like doodles I’ve had a few and currently got 2

What sort of use will it be for.

If you want GTS then I guess 911 is a good place

Having said that you’d get a very good spec new 4.0gts boxster/cayman and possible some change.

Handling is even better to enjoy

I live in Colchester.

I've only driven 2-3000ish a year with my RS6, so similar to that. My previous car to the RS6 was an E46 M3 convertible. I mainly buy a car because I like it/and driving it.

I would prefer to avoid taking a complete bath on depreciation, so a "new" new car has never been on my radar.

I bought the M3 11 months old, and it was vandalised a few times which I've never forgotten.

BTW is the 911 less wide than a C6 RS6? I presently only have a single garage so that might be an issue too.

In no rush to buy, I still smile everytime I drive the RS.

But appreciate all the suggestions.

I appreciate I have a healthy budget, was just looking at where I should be focused on, so dealers don't think I'm just time wasting.

Porsche sweet spot?

Width about the same but the doors are longer.

There’s some margin on some used cars, but don’t expect to offer ten percent under, for example, and be received with open arms. It’s a different market to dealing with Audi.

In current times depreciation is a lottery. There will be some!

I’m Sussex so thought I’d check in case me dealer was any use to you

Depending which 911, they are pretty wide but doddles has had both and the wide 911s too I think.

Residuals are pretty good generally and certainly better than a new RS6 ! Although for a laugh I did do a we but any car quote from webuyanycar on my 5 months old 911. I paid £114k they offered £80k. Dealers are selling them at roughly list or just under at the minute

Thanks guys

I'm also looking to move home, to something with a double garage again, was looking at next year for that so might have to hold of on this then.

My insurance company said they'll insure a car up to £80k, who do you insure with?

I'm sure it would have to be garaged, so could be a problem. What, if any, limitations do you have on yours insurance wise?
