Porsche Colchester

Post by don0301 » Sat Sep 21, 2019 3:31 pm

So....I went into the dealer on Monday to register interest with a healthy budget in mind.

I said I would like some test drives to get idea what I was really going to be interested in, no rush, specifically turbo cayman GTS mainly to see what they are like, and more specifically a 991 911 S model coupe.

I've heard nothing since....

All Porsche dealers like this?
Ferrari 488 Spider
C6 RS6
E46 M3 convertible
Nissan 200sx mk 2
Vauxhall Senator
Ford Sierra 1.8LX
Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi
Vauxhall Belmont SRi
Vauxhall Astra 1.3
Vauxhall Astra 1.3
1st car Datsun 120 FII Lime green....yeah

OK, so that makes more sense.

If you’re looking at used you need to nail your colours to the mast. They aren’t going to dish out half a dozen test drives on their used stock.

If there’s a car you would buy in stock then that’s the one to get into.

Bare in mind they’ll have umpteen dreamers through the door wanting to drive all sorts with no prospect of a purchase.

Fair enough

I wasn't after loads of test drives. I made clear my budget, and what I was potentially interested in

I was clear I wanted to try the turbo cayman GTS "just to see" what it was like and my main interest is in a 991 S (with budget I have in mind, I would like a 991 turbo but too much) but obviously want to try first.

She seemed keen to get me a test drive, even spoke of giving me "a few hours" without me asking for that.

But heard nothing.....

I know of Nikki but I haven’t dealt with her. As an existing customer I can’t grumble, always been looked after.

They had an excellent sales manager, he got to know me and worked a test drive in a TTS. Far more effort than I’ve ever seen in car sales. He was passionate about the brand and the product. The new guy is nice enough but is more of a traditional sales guy.

So all in all I’d say it’s not atypical. If you want the drive pester them.

Yeah, I'm in no rush.

Just seems poor way to deal with a potential customer.

And that’s the point, probably haven’t clocked you as a potential customer yet.

Not the experience I had at Porsche Cambridge. A few years ago mind you. Called about a 996 C4S Cab but explained that I had never owned a Porsche before and that I would like to look at other models too. Drove the 996 C4S, a 996 C4S Cab, a 997 S, a 997 Turbo and a 997 Turbo Cab. Bought the Turbo Cab. They couldn't have been more helpful and ultimately got a material up-sell on the car I thought I wanted to buy.
Currently running:
18 plate Lamborghini Huracan Performante (5.2l of V10 naturally aspirated craziness)
67 plate RS6 Performance (fully loaded)
66 plate Range Rover Autobiography (for wafting around)
16 plate Mini Cooper S convertible (lots of fun but rather skittish when thrashed)

Favourite car ever owned:
1971 Citroen DS21 - The Goddess (pure art on wheels)

I still can’t get how such expensive cars like the Porsche’s and Ferrari’s at the Colchester dealerships are just sat outside. It’s criminal. I cringe every time I drive past😯
