Nurburgring lap - with an appropriate car for once (981 GTS)

Post by JCviggen » Thu Sep 06, 2018 7:23 pm

After lapping a lot in a Volvo and an Audi in days gone by, I finally did it in something a bit more made for the job. Quite unstable at the limit thouhg, could use a 911's rear suspension or a big wing maybe.

If it seems a little quiet, my car fell foul of the 130 dB pass-by noise limit. After logging 135 and change I was sent off and had to fix it by wiring the exhaust valves to stay shut.

Good work mate, that looked (was) seriously quick. Just shows what a proper sports car and decent driver can do. Is it stock (apart from the exhaust)? You’re friends with Misha IIRC aren’t you? Did you time the B7 around the ring, how did you get on in that? Ever taken the C5 around?

Fit catless exhaust manifolds...that's about it. PSE with the valves open sounds almost straight through. Literally painful to your ears IRL from the outside. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIEZNR6JKXU

Suspension is stock but with camber maxed out. I normally run an ECU tune but this was stock to compensate for the closed exhaust valves causing excessive backpressure. My B7 did an 8:06 BTG I believe, video is in my YT somewhere too. I took the C5 around to get a couple of pictures of it on track, oil temp was a concern about halfway through and I started backing off quite a lot. Probably about 30 secs off the B7 on a decent run. It's a boat...

Used to go pretty frequently 10 years ago when I lived 2 hours away. Now that it takes me 3 days to get my car over there it's a once a year kinda thing at best. I took 5 years off at one point. Reasonable experience but not thousands of laps. Somewhere between 150 and 200 probably.
