Cayman GTS

Post by JCviggen » Mon Jan 04, 2016 12:46 pm

Bought in the afternoon of Dec 31st, will pick it up when I get back to Moscow in late January so no good pics yet.

Excuse the google translate I did on the spec list:

N0 Exterior Color Metallic Grey (Agate Grey)
BX gray / orange interior (Agate Grey / Amber Orange) in combination with other materials
625 System Porsche Entry & Drive
632 Bi-Xenon headlights including dynamic lighting system Porsche (PDLS Plus)
089 package color black GTS
638 sensors Parking assistance front and rear, including rear-view camera
P13 Rear-view mirrors with automatic dimming and rain sensor
748 folding exterior mirrors with electric drive
XUB washers painted in exterior color Exclusive
250 7-speed Porsche double-clutch (PDK)
X73 Sport suspension (under-clearance of 20 mm) Exclusive
220 System torque distribution on the rear axle (Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), including a mechanical differential lock
658 Power steering Plus
XLS Sport nozzle exhausts Exclusive
423 20-inch Carrera S wheels
XDH Wheels painted entirely in matte silver color (Platinum satin) Exclusive
573 Automatic dual-zone climate control
714 The lack of Alcantara
P07 18-pt. Adaptability. improved. SPORTS. seating

EEJ Carbon interior Carbon interior package (in conjunction with leather interior / s PDK) Exclusive
XHM Cover center console in carbon Exclusive
P23 PCM, including navigation module

Lots of stuff on there which I wouldn't have ordered myself, but I'll take it. I specifically wanted a car on the X73 sports suspension and this was the only one to be found anywhere. The missus is into this kind of interior so that was that. I only really miss the sports steering wheel which they never order in Russia for some reason. I also would've preferred to save the weight and money of the regular sports seats or even buckets, but I'm not complaining.

Got a great deal given the current exchange rate, which means people are snapping up cars left and right. The dealer had already sold 4 cars earlier in the day before we got there. It's a 2015 car which was used by Porsche for some driver trainings on track. Not ideal but hey, I'm getting a warranty on it till 2019. It's only done 2500 miles and you can't screw up much in that little driving anyway, and I can rest assured they broke it in the way I would have. In UK money I paid 40K. Car is on Michelin Cup 2 tires which isn't brilliant for Russian winter but I'm not going to buy winter tires for it now, will just use the RS4 for driving when the weather doesn't allow use of the Cayman.

Lovely!

If only the steering wheel was on the correct side it'd be perfect for me!

Congrats! :beerchug:

Lovely car, spec sounds very good. Agate Grey is one of best colours imo but i would be biased in saying that.

Enjoy it, it is a great car to have along side the B7, they are both so different but so brilliant. The Cayman is such a sweet handling car.

Thanks!

Interestingly this Cayman mirrors my first C5 RS6 almost perfectly - that one was Daytona with a Cognac interior. I drove some 991s and I probably prefer those in terms of styling, but they were very "clinical" in their delivery of performance to the point that I was a little disappointed by the lack of excitement. A GT3 is what I'd need and no way to get that in and out of underground parkings in the city.

I've seen some pretty impressive power gains on 981s, up to 50 horsepower with intake exhaust and ECU, so that's also something to consider for when the warranty runs out! Truly one of the last affordable entertaining NA Porsches, I can't imagine the turbo 4-banger will be anywhere as exciting to take to redline.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't make my money in GBP, the massive exchange drop rate along with inflation takes a while to translate into real world adjustment. But it IS a great deal obviously.

A 991.2S currently lists for 62K GBP in Russia before you add options. Pretty sure Porsche's list price for the UK is a lot higher. Obviously it will adjust as time progresses so Porsche sales figures are through the roof here while the sun shines.

Picked it up yesterday. The longer I look at it, the prettier it gets. Which is a relief as I always preferred 911s but the proportions and profile view of the Cayman together with more pronounced engine sound in the cabin and a much more involved/sportscar feeling have really won me over.

I'm sure it would struggle to win any race against my B7 but because of the way the car is it does *feel* pretty quick once you pass 5K rpm. I already have some catless fabspeed exhaust manifolds lying around, coupled with a larger TB and a tune they are easily doing 370+ BHP. But I'll just enjoy it the way it is for now.

Surely the Cayman would still slaughter the B7 on track? What it lacks in straight line speed it'll make up on corner speed and early pull out of the corner?

Lovely looking car!

Oh absolutely. Just talking straight line differences. But it's difficult to tell if you don't use a stopwatch anyway.

Ah cool.

Yer definitely. I'm guessing that 0-100 isn't that far off but 100-150 is a completely different story!

I sold an r1 bike because it wouldn't stop doing 170! The cbr600 I got would get to a 100 at about the same time by then ask if if like another 70mph! Much more road civilised!
