I may have been a wee bit enthusiastic getting the X73 sports suspension (fixed rate dampers, 20mm lower, much stiffer rear sway bar) as it rides a lot like a 997 GT3 on the bumps on the road here. Still, I like my cars to be a little on the edge and it still damps well without crashing into any bumpstops. Just that you're sort of jumping all over the place on the worst bits of tarmac here in the center. The PASM cars are very soft by comparison. Should be fine on longer trips though as the bigger roads are pretty smooth.
Looking forward to trying it on track as it feels mega when you point it into a turn with some commitment even on very floppy winter tires. I wonder how long I can resist voiding the warranty for another 30 Hp and 50 Nm

Re: Cayman GTS
Did my first laps on track with the car, figured I'd put it here.
Turn-in oversteer when you push it, brakes were pretty solid, OEM Pirelli tires overheated pretty quickly and turned from mediocre to rubbish.
Still early in the learning process for this track, I figure at least another second a lap to find there. Still I was pretty happy with it. Bit more learning then next year proper tires and more camber front and rear.

I'm swapping the turbo wheels as they just don't work on a 981.

Re: Cayman GTS
Cheers - it's a great compromise. I had been flirting with excessive options, 991 911 GTS or Cayman GT4 but that felt wrong, at least for now.
Cayman GTS is more than enough for now. It can't complete with the likes of a V10 R8 in top trumps as on paper; power, torque and 0-60 figures are not that special. However, as everybody says it's all about the sensation and the accessibility of the cars limits. First mid-engined car and it really does feel as if you are immersed in it.
The biggest shock so far has been the volume of the sports exhaust on start up. Just as well the neighbours have triple glazing! The only down side is the build quality isn't as high as I'd hoped - the odd rattle here and there. However, this isn't a hushed car for touring and I just have to lower my expectations about build quality in general.
Took it for a blast over Salisbury plain today - it's addictive and as it's done sub 3k miles in 14 months, I have plenty of headroom there to play with.

You'll have more fun on the roads in the Cayman than a R8

I just replaced my exhaust manifolds with catless Fabspeed race versions. I can tell you it gets a heck of a lot louder stillPaul789 wrote: The biggest shock so far has been the volume of the sports exhaust on start up. Just as well the neighbours have triple glazing!
It sounds like a 997 GT3 cup car now with the PSE turned on, it's mental. Fortunately with the valves closed it's still rather respectable and easy to live with.
If you have any rattles from the rear/boot try screwing those plastic + rubber thingies a little farther out when the trunk is open. Solved my clunking at the back, can't say I have any real rattles otherwise. Only on rare occasions the seat belt buckly starts making annoying sounds but it has to be the exact right temperature for it to happen and it rarely is.the odd rattle here and there

The rattles were all sorted by Reading OPC and once done, the interior was completely solid. Re: Cayman GTS
Finished P2 in my first shot at the Porsche Club Cup time attack. Had a blast with the car, aligned for max camber at the front but on very old used Michelin Cup 2 tires that had seen a lot of abuse from a previous owner of the wheels they were on. Topped every session until the sun came out and my tires went off a cliff
Oh, and that sound is the flat 6 unrestricted by any catalysts and with a custom tune. My speed traps were 1.5 MPH off a GT4.

Re: Cayman GTS
718 GTS not announced yet, but it'll be a turbo 4 banger like the rest of them. My 981 GTS and a Cayman R have fundamentally the same 3.4 H6 engine, a bit more power in the later spec. Cayman R is a little more hardcore and less of a daily. In terms of performance no large differences.

Re: Cayman GTS
My bad, didn't realise there was another model in between. So the GTS is the slightly newer, more civilised version of the R? I guess what I'm really wondering is whether the extra £5+ is worth it for the GTS.JCviggen wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2017 7:48 am718 GTS not announced yet, but it'll be a turbo 4 banger like the rest of them.
