Turned to the dark side...

So I sold my RS4 for various reasons and then suddenly found myself in need of a replacement car a lot quicker than I'd anticipated

so after a short period of deliberation (around 60 seconds) off I went and got myself a 997 Turbo :D

Always loved these and they've always been on my "must have" car list and this seemed like an ideal opportunity to get one

its a Gen 1 Tiptronic which whilst not to everyone's taste, works fine for me as a lot of my "commute" is in fairly slow stop start traffic. Makes for effortless overtaking and blasting around which is good. about 30k on the clock on an 07 plate, an average which I will be significantly increasing as its my every day car which will be used for everything I need a car for ! already been away for a weekend in Daaarsettt with wife and our little boy and all the clobber that entails..

this one has the "sports chrono" option which gives you 10 seconds of overboost at a time. Not sure its entirely necessary to be honest but makes for quite entertaining overtaking acceleration!

the exhaust note sounds "ok" but nowhere near as nice as the RS4 but you do get the nice turbo whistle when you open her up. also sounds quite nice when it starts up but once again, very different to the v8 firing up and running at full pelt !

very different to drive to the rs4, a lot lower to the ground (or so it feels) so will take a while to get used to that. still a very nice comfortable drive though and very very quick when it needs to be

still love the B7 though and it will always be one of my favourites and I hope whoever ended up with it will enjoy it as much as I did. they certainly should benefit from the small fortune I spent on maintaining it !

maybe one day i'll be back with another RS of some sort although unless they start doing saloons again, I'm not so sure

Looks great, glad you're happy with it. The overboost feature sounds amusing :D

By the way, excellent commitment to rule 1, re-positioning the car for each shot!

cheers :D

Yeah I deliberated over the manual / auto route for a while but whilst I don't doubt for one second the manual is brilliant and a much "purer" driver experience in a lot of peoples eyes, the auto really suits the power delivery of this car plus for a lot of my driving, its a nice change to have an auto box

Looks stunning & enjoy.

Likewise, the Porsche Turbo itch within me gets stronger every year.

Go drive a 991. But, only do it if you want to buy one as that's the likely result!

It ought to be good, it's pretty much a mid-engined car now. Longer wheel base and a tricky rear trans-axle shape/position, bla bla bla. Can't imagine it'll be an easy car to work on in the future.

Yeah I know, I'm a glass half empty kinda guy.
