You would need to be friendly with a tyre company!
Martin in the C5 forum sold his not long ago and kept his RS6.

Re: HSV GTS
There was the vauxhall version at the midlands breakfast club in march looks good in red.
Re: HSV GTS
Looks better in red. GT-R tyres are good for about 12k miles.

Re: HSV GTS
Not driven the latest one but had a vxr8 (precious model).
Flawed in many ways and way way too big and floaty but...
Omg what personality and fun.
Depends what price point they come in at.
When the vxr8 was purchased it was about 37k but I got mine for 29kish (spanking new 0 miles).
However the price jumped up to around 50k....
That's a trickier proposition. As fun and different it is, the rs4 is a much better car for the same money.
Same with this case - if its coming in at 60-70k then it's tricky.
One thing to consider too is they depreciate like a lead weight.

Re: HSV GTS
Even non forced induction the vxr8 would easily break traction (400lb/ft+ at 1700 rpm or something silly) - its what made every roundabout the most entertaining.PhilT wrote:Looks better in red. GT-R tyres are good for about 12k miles.
The thing to bear in mind is apart from the obvious 4wd aspect, the weight distribution is considerably worse with big heavy v8 and gearbox over the front axle (iirc the gtr has the gearbox over the rear axle) so light rear and the suspension is considerably less advanced shocks/dampers and electronic control systems.
I had my vxr8 and needed new rears after 6k miles
Re: HSV GTS
6k!!

Re: HSV GTS
To be fair, my own fault.
I've never driven a car where oversteer drifting is not only easy and controllable but so accessible.
You really can at the last moment think 'screw it, in going to drift this at 90 degrees' at a second notice.
Drifting is so etching I'm not great at but this can make anybody a master. Party piece was drifting whilst looking at passenger having a conversation.

Re: HSV GTS
You should try the ute, it's like the rear-end is floating around on trolly jacks, but somehow, the rear never overtakes the cab. It use to help plonking a heavy anchor chain in the tray, the chain would slide around and put weight over the outside rear wheel, kinda like an Aussie DRC... only more reliable, cheaper and multi-purposed.adsgreen wrote:To be fair, my own fault.

I've had a few Condomadores, all of them 5.0L, never had an LS motor, still mental though. Sideways? Yeah, I'd end up replacing lock stops as much as tyres, driftin' like a mad <beep>.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: HSV GTS
Great fun and loads of character, but ultimately a blunt instrument. I paid £22k new for mine in 2009, and to be honest it wasn't worth much more than that. £50k for one is completely laughable.
Definitely a box ticked, I always wanted so own a proper muscle car, so it's nice to know I've done it.
GTR for me in September though, from lump hammer to surgical precision instrument!
Mart.
