It's a V6S

Not sure if it will feel fast enough with 380PS @ 1600 KG

But wonder what the tuning houses are doing with these given MRC are getting 450-500PS out of an Audi 3.0V6 Supercharged ...

Could feel a little slow. Spires are jag tuners, I would ask if mrc can map them though.

It's kicking off on Pistonheads as apparently the V6 F Type is a V8 with the two pots blanked in with blanking plates, asked my mate who worked on development and said it's not true, that was a prototype, but most F type forums are having a field day calling it cheap engineering.

Edit: someone else said it's still the same size as the V8 block but now it's filled in properly rather than without blank plates...

Asked another friend at JLR who said "It's true, it's the V8 block. The unused cylinders stick off the end".

Other friend says that was the case but they've now changed it.

I get to go in the new JLR product all the time because of these two friends working for them, fab product IMO. The new Rangey is just as smooth and refined as the D4 A8. Properly moved the game on.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking exactly that.

Drove the F-Type.

First off, the looks.

Wow. In that particular spec, in that colour, with those wheels...simply stunning. Absolutely grabs you by the heart strings. The red, the black optics, the 20" wheels with carbon blades, the design pack (bit of a bodykit basically) ... Wow.

Then the interior. Was really really impressed. The buckets were spot on, much like Audi Recaro's. It had extended leather on dash/doors. Feel and fit really good, nice colours etc. Had the interior design pack which basically had black inlays and an uprated Flat Bottom Wheel which was really chunky.

The tech inside was good. Switchable exhaust, race mode, and you could configure the dynamics via the head unit, I.e Engine/Gearbox/Suspension/Steering etc.

Sound.
V6 sound. Let's not kid ourselves, its not burbling V8 or screaming V10, but it was really nice, and it would literally pop and crackle at will with the active exhaust on, laugh out loud awesome - yunno how the Capristo pops and bangs on overrun, like that, all the time.

Steering.
Electric steering, so not as good as the R8 hydrolic, but such is the industry now. Felt ok thou, no immediate complaints.

Ride.
As per R8 really, in dynamic mode was like R8 with mag ride in Sports mode, but was nice to switch it to 'Normal' and retain everything else in Dynamic.

Gearbox.
8speed ZF slushbox. Full manual mode, I.e will bounce off the limiter.
Upshifts superquick, like DSG quick, with great upshift noise. But downshifts didn't have as dramatic aural drama as I would have hoped. Still, really good gearbox, I'll say > R-Tronic but < S-Tronic.

Traction.
RWD, cold greasy roads and P-Zero's, it would fish tail for fun on WOT! Would need to try it in the dry really, but RWD fun and makes you realise just what the front grip on the R8 does to keep you straight.

Power.
The 380PS probably had enough tbh, for the car. I can see why people say its the sweet sport of the range, you don't really need more to have lots of fun. But of course we all want more! So I think it would be better with a remap, or the V8S just to give it an edge, if you know what I mean.

Overall.

Absolutely love the car. Really felt special, in that spec/colour combo.
Could see myself happily enjoying it as much as the R8.

Where did it end.

Where is always ends...the dealer offered £52k for Luther!

So I left.

LOL !

Good write up. Shame they were crap tyres, that can make a huge difference. Was it a Sturgess dealership? They are meant to be the best.

Haha, 52k! So, how much would they flip a V10 'vert R8 for?
