XFR

Post by chunky79 » Sat Dec 08, 2012 8:00 am

Had a standing start race with an XFR last night on an private road with NO speed limit (in my head anyway). I just had the legs upto 30mph past 60mph. Told the wife we need to step upto MRC stage 2 now. Pulled up at the next set of lights and the chap lowered his cap to me

A Jaaag driver wearing a cap and a private road with traffic lights... Hollywood couldn't have scripted it better.
They're a nice car though, I had a tussle with one above 100 leptons and there was nothing in it, we'd have run out of road before either of us had edged ahead.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I had an epic little race one night last week with a new Beemer TRIPLE turbo diesel, but I have no idea what model it was, other than it was big and sleek.

It came looming up behind me after I had been getting some morons out of the way a little naughtily so I backed off a bit in case it was Police. It sat behind me for about 20 seconds then planted his foot and flew past me. As soon as he did that I realised it was fun time. He ran out of talent coming to the end of the A331 at Farnham as his brake lights were disco flashing like a champ and I could see the back end twitching about. Anyway, foot to floor around the slip road on to the A31 Farnham bound and I was pulling away from him but was only a couple of cars ahead by the end of that fair long slip.

Had a few more squirts and was able to pull away at each point but only at a pedestrian pace really. Had a quick chat with him about it at the lights at which point he told me about it being this triple turbo beast thing I and was very impressed, you could see that it was cranking out masses of torque, only about 60lbs less than mine according to specs. I will say in my defense that baby doesn't feel like she is running in tip top nick currently though, but all the spoilation money is going on new project for now.

I warned him that I would be turning in at the next set of lights so didn't need to race him but he said I would have to catch him first! I then proceeded to spank him off the lights before turning in for my cool down run home :). I am always wary of Bimmer deisels, have been for years. Madam seemed quite moist for the Bimmer too.

Mega fast and they sound awesome as standard - although I wouldn't fancy 500 bhp through an automatic gearbox to a pair of 20" rears in this kind of weather....

Sorry mate, do you mean he passed you at 60mph? Or did you beat him beyond 60mph?

Not being funny, just curious! :)

Them Beemer triple turbo diesels are quick. I fecking love Beemers.
Anyway, I had an XFR behind me a few weeks ago, couldn't shake him at all, we went from 30-130 2/3 times and I couldn't pull away in the slightest. He flashed me as he turned off.

I like the XFR. When I grow up maybe I will consider one. In the meantime my money would go on the XKR.

Really? The XJ is more of an old mans motor, the XFR is the cool mans car. XKR is a nice motor but will be pushed to the side once the F type shows it's face. I'm really hoping to get an XFR in 2013, just need to find a good indie and tuner.

Edit, just noticed you said when you ''grow up'', can't see you ever getting an XFR then.

Looks like they all (triple turbo diesels) are four-wheel-drive, 3litre engine, 381bhp, 546 lb ft torque. BMW M550d (and touring), X5 M50d and X6 M50d.
Loon and touring 0-62 in 4.7 sec.

Monsters.

The Beemer tri-turbos 'loons and touring aren't available here in AWD flavours.
