C63 AMG

A friend of mine has just traded in his RS4 for a new C63 AMG.

Naturally he wanted to have a go against my RS4 to benchmark the performance difference.
So off we went. I had predicted I would get blown away due to the massive torque advantage the Merc has, particulariy on the M-way.

To my suprise it was neck and neck. In fact at some point I was pulling ever so slightly away :kissmyrings:

When we got back he was SOOO deflated and I was the complete opposite!!!

He is going to get the Merc checked out this week by Mercedes. But by God that thing make a spectacular noise and imo looks the dogs too.

But until he finds there is a problem with it or gets a re-map, its 1-0 to the RS4!! :jump:

I must say I'm a bit surprised by this. Is yours stock?

Either way nice one!

Was it from a dig / from low speeds? Drivers of the 63...especially new owners...struggle with traction issues.

Anyway good job!

I had two runs against one in April...wasn't even close on either run. Shows how tough they can be to drive, while the rs4 is just point and shoot.

Don't see why people are surprised...
Sure, the AMG has more power but nothing dramatically more and it's heavier resulting in a similar power to weight ratio.
I would imagine the auto clutch on the amg is locking but they are generally far from instantaneous when changing.

I've dug out my old spreadsheet and put in the stats for the c63 based on some info.
http://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w204/ ... urves.html

(Interesting how the peak falls off so even though there is a bucket of torque when you are accelerating to full power you end up using much less. Gear changes appear to be between 5krpm to 7k rpm and the average torque here is about 310 at the wheels). The extra massive torque advantage is only there low down not in the main engine zone. Be good to see if it really does change at 7k rpm under full power.

Anyway, the results are yes the c63 is fractionally quicker until it hits 4th gear and it's noticably longer and the rs claws back.
But we're talking tenths here and a couple feet there.

I was holding up a C63 on a Motorway slip road the other day...When he got a chance he shot past giving it the absolute beans the noise was simply incredible...

There is a video on YouTube of some car mag testing the C6 RS6, and they put it against the C63 in a drag and the C63 takes the RS6. I was surprised by that! I'm sure it was a C63 anyway, was an estate. Agree they sound the nuts.

it was in the B8 S4 section SvRS post.Mercedes have got an AMG AWD A class in the pipeline to challenge the RS3 ill bet an AWD AMG C63 will follow which will be a beast of a car.BMW are introducing AWD to the 3 series also,AUDI really need to step up a gear to keep its domination in the premium AWD market.

I fully understand how you could get beaten off the line as I'm still learning how to put the power down in Sport+. With the current rainclouds permanently over the UK this month it makes it more difficult.

I have the performance pack and the AMG feels noticeably quicker. I have't tried the Race Start function yet! :bigblink:

I think he just said an MRC B8 S4 would leave the C63 essentially.

what he said was QUOTE MRC B8 S4 0-60 3.74secs debate OVER.As i pointed out the standard C63 is not fully tuned thats why AMG do a performance option and also a Black series with even more power. When independent tuners like Brabus do a version of a Mercedes it is in a different league again http://www.brabus.com/en/index.html
