That's the thing. I'm concerned about 500 horses to the back end which the RS6 spreads over 4 wheels. Turn the ESP off, loose it, and there's no coming back (Mooch:verify) but in the AMG there's 3 settings to dampen your enthusiasm. Won't help with frosty hill climbs though, unlike the 6.

Do a google on common faults, nothing too serious pops up just a few niggles but all cars have them:) I'm sure someone on here or srs had one which had a potentially dangerous reoccuring fuel leak.

does a 55 sound like a 63?

I'm at abu Dhabi GP F1 and the safety car is a C63 AMG estate and it sounds like the devil awoken on the way round and that's bog standard !

Lol! Nice one Bam.

I'm trial borrowing the E55 AMG on Thursday and Friday this week so will do a Jeremy Clarkson write-up afterwards. So far my research has revealed no major component gremlins like our beasties, and running costs are lower.

For sure though, the RS6 is definitely the better looking of the two.

Plenty of problems with mercedes and AMG cars. - As with the Audi's the parts and labour are both very expensive. If you have a problem with your supercharger you're looking at £4-5k plus fitting. If youre SRS lamp comes on your dash you're looking at c £1k plus fitting to change the board. Then there's the rust to consider etc. etc

However as few of you guys run these cars from new I guess you miss out on the £1k per month depreciation on these type of cars so it's swings and roundabouts.

Beyond that I'd say the Mercedes feel quicker but the Audis have a more planted feel.

I certainly acknowledge these cars cost thousands to run and only a fool would buy one without an appropriately sized war chest. However, you take your chances with these things unless the odds are against you with a known weakness like DRC, intercoolers, gearbox, alternator and then you protect yourself with an appropriate warranty. Nevertheless, I can't help but worry that my family and I will be stranded one day in the arse end of nowhere with the sound of dualing banjos drifting through the trees. So far I've been lucky but time and mileage are ticking on.

Are you saying superchargers on AMGs are prone to failure? In which case thanks for the heads up. If not I could say "dont buy an RS6 because a new engine will cost £9k" (guess). Don't get me wrong, my 6 has been my pride and joy for years and I have loved almost every minute, but a 25k mile 2005 for a sensible price is nigh on impossible to find.
