E55 AMG

Post by Welky » Fri Nov 12, 2010 4:02 pm

Love the 6, but a whisker away from 70k now, and 7 years this month...so;

2005 black E55 AMG with 27k miles, full MB history and 1 owner: £21k

Baring in mind low mileage replacement 6es are hard to find nowadays, should I?

Sounds good. I really like those. Shame it's not the E63 though :)

Great fun in the wet

I know, the E63 would be more compelling. Does the E**AMG have any DRC/gearbox type Achilles heal probs like the 6?

I spoke to one of the test drivers at MB world about reliability. Said they are indestructible. And these guys know their stuff. They hammer the cars hard and they rarely have any problems with the AMG Exx. I would be tempted if I could find an estate.

Damn it! I was hoping to be talked out of it. What about Mercedes after sales? and in the flesh the RS6 is a better looking beastie.

I agree that the RS6 is much nicer looking car. The E55 is very aggressive looking though, which I like also. I think MB are no worse than Audi.

I would miss the Quattro though. But the brutality of the E55 is hilarious. And the noise makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Go and drive one. :)

If you are near surrey, go to MB World and book a hot lap in one. You'll be able to get some quality info from the drivers then (who are not really affiliated with MB, but more like subcontracted in).

Yep, I'm driving it over the weekend.

I like the wide shoulders of the RS6 compared to the AMG. Looks more purposeful.

Lol! My wife just cracked me up. She says this forum should be called 'Loose Men'. Cheeky cow!

+1. I have a feeling the traction control light will be flashing a lot!
With the RS6 it simply delivers all the horses with no fuss.

I test drove an E55 estate and thought it was more of a sideways step. The RS6 felt very solid when I got back into it. The dash/buttons are laid out better in the RS6.
