Goodbye for now

Post by Nickyboy » Mon Jul 09, 2018 2:05 pm

After 8 years of Audi I have moved on and am bloody loving every minute. I got a C63 with 6,800 miles for £41k! Unbelievable depreciation.

My RS 3 was mapped and had second cats removed so was a pretty obnoxious motor. Trouble is I drove like an :knob:

The C63 obviously is a completely different motor and is stacked with options and I am really loving the change.

Maybe be back in an RS again one day. Trouble is what am I going to get with anything close to the AMG noise.

Nice one

Be interested to hear how you get on when the roads become less than perfect, in the cold wet sense.

I was tempted by one of those but wanted 4 wheel drive hence going E43.

I miss the V8 but it is as quick as the RS4 and the tech is far better than the Audi/c63 so I’m quite happy with my choice.

Ideally I’d have a E63s but that was another £30k more than mine spec for spec - mine has every option

I got quite a lot of good tech on the C63. Someone really specced it up nicely for me. I’m comparing it to my RS 3 which is obviously very different.

For £41k and 6k miles it’s a bloody good motor.

Of course in the wet things will be different but actually I don’t care because it is so nice to cruise in. I don’t need to drive it hard all the time. Just hearing the AMG V8 burble away is pleasure enough.

I’m sure there’ll be times when I miss AWD but no car is forever so I’m going to enjoy it for what it is.

Glad you like the E43.

Who removed your secondary cats? I’m trying to get mine done but nobody wants to do it.

Had my second cats removed yesterday. Sound is much nicer and downshifts are hilarious. Cold starts aren’t much louder either which is perfect for my early starts.

Remap next week.

As a member was interested in my thoughts on both here you go.

My C63 is very well specced and the RS (pre-fl) was as well. I think decent spec in either is a huge must. So many cool options on the C63. 360 camera with loads of views, HUD (awesome), all the safety features, pan roof, exhaust, suspension, comfort pack, etc etc. RS has exhaust, suspension, seats, rear view camera, ali styling, tech pack high etc.

The RS 3 was a go-kart. Stupidly quick off the line and you can throw it into the corners and it would kick the ass out of pretty much everything. With the second decat removed the sound was brutal as well. The car was so capable but the map certainly made it that way. Without the map, in third gear it felt like it was always holding back and a torquey diesel could easily keep up.

The C63 is a completely different beast. It is an actual car. I.e. the quality is better, more space, loads more tech, much more refined, more comfortable, quieter on a cruise etc. The RS was just an animal. It attracted loads of bad attention as well and I’d find myself racing loads of other hot hatches.

In terms of the drive, well the RS would monster the C63 off the line. However in 2nd gear the C63 really picks up and shifts and doesn’t stop. The C63 traction control is really good and I don’t find myself wheel spinning everywhere like I expected, it just doesn’t pull as hard as the traction cuts the power. From second onwards it’s relentless and would probably see off the mapped RS (just). I’ve driven once in the wet and is was pretty good. Let’s wait until winter though when I’ll probably miss the Quattro.

Feeling the back end move around was slightly unnerving at first but now it’s quite fun. Need to be careful though.

I had my second cats deleted yesterday and now the sound is perfect. It’s really meaty and growly.

The RS gearbox is definitely quicker and you notice it on the downshifts. Up shifts with WOT then you can’t notice it.

Fuel economy is slightly better in the RS but surprisingly not that much different.

I miss the blistering pace low down of the RS and although the V8 is a better sound I do miss the 5 pot noise.

I bought the car from Sutherland cars near Bristol. Good bunch of lads who love a fast car. Got a stonking deal as well.

Remap gets an extra 100bhp which I’ll get in two weeks.

To sum up I’d say the RS is a lads car and the C63 is a mans car. As expected I suppose as they are aimed at different markets.

I was underwhelmed initially with the low down power initially but now I know how to drive it a bit bitter it keeps growing on me.
