B7 RS4 to E92 M3

Post by ShaneyB » Thu Aug 23, 2012 10:17 am

Can't believe I'm writing this but I'm seriously considering this switch. Over the past two weeks I've been to see loads of B7's and have been really disappointed in the condition of all but one (Mugello @ BHP). That is in fantastic condition and the guy I have been speaking to (Neil) has been great. Not sure Mugello is for me long term but it did look classy, like my Daytona. Every single one I've viewed, I have sat in it and straight away I just compare everything to my old B7 and they just don't match up. I'm pretty sure that as soon as I drive one I will feel deflated as mine was well modded also. I want another one but can't see me finding one I'm happy with and in budget. The Mugello one is up for £27,495.00 and is spotless.

Now, because of the lack of quality '07 or newer B7's available I considered C63 AMG's and E92 M3's. AMG will be fine for me when I retire but not before so that is ruled out, just feels like my Grandads car.

E92's. First thing I notice is they do look sleak in the flesh and trust me I wanted to hate them. Sat inside a good few now and the whole cockpit feels a lot more modern to me compared to the B7. When you look into the technology and gadgets inside (MDrive, BMW Assist/Online, Adjustable driver settings etc.) again they are streets ahead of the RS IMHO. How much of it you'd use after getting settled in is questionable but at least you can personolise the car. On the cost side I have been looking at '08 & '58 plates, manual & DCT for around the £27k-£29k mark and they have looked mint. Clearly the RS is holding it's value better than the M3 at the moment but I would have thought they will drop when the new RS arrives.

So what to do? Get another RS that will probably be older, slower and forever in the shadow of my Daytona or bite the bullet, accept it's time for a change and give the BMW a go?

I'd be interested to hear peoples views.

Sad times but that will teach me for writing mine off :-(

B7 RS4 to E92 M3

Completely agree on the Merc. They are for binary speaking, grey suit wearing miseries and old farts who've forgotten what indicators are for.

Could you go to a C6 RS6 or not your cup of tea, different kettle of fish granted.

What are early B8 S4s going for now, another option?

Finally, find some soap and wash your mouth out!!

I really like them and think they are good value for money at the mo.

This one caught my eye recently at £23,450 http://www.sytner.co.uk/search/bmw-m3-c ... hl=-339365

Ohhhhh thats a good choice; the e92 m3 is a machine!!!

Any1 remember the episode of top gear a few years back?

They did a drag race with the c63, b7 rs4 and e92 m3!
The c63 came first, m3 came second and rs4 came third...

2 totally different cars but awesome!!!

Too high mileage and red interior

S4 too bland. Looks like a standard A4 S Line. C6's are out of budget.

Sounds like you don't need our thoughts as you have already seen your new car! Enjoy the M3.

Shagga don't be afraid to be the gentleman you are (I'm guessing here considering your impeccable taste in Audis') and the <beep> you want to be (I'm not guessing here considering your inevitable M3 purchase) :beerchug:

Do it.

Brilliant, fine comments :-)

I just want similar performance, newer for around the same budget.I hit the tree between 35 & 40mph and Quattro was zero help building up the collision.

IF (big if) I go to the dark side I'm pretty sure I'll be back with another Audi in the future.

Can you believe that the main reason I have been so against publishing my thoughts is cos of you lot.....my forum buddies! Knew I'd get a ribbing but a change is as good as a rest. If the right RS comes along I'll jump at it, if not I have no choice but to look at other marques.
