New BMW M3/M4

Post by Mr V10 » Thu Dec 12, 2013 6:17 pm

Back to the In-line six but now with two turbos, 425 BHP, new lightweight materials and tech so 80 KG lighter than the E9x. In fact, Top Gear and Autoexpress have said BMW M division claim the M4 weighs ''just under 1500KG'. (find that hard to believe). Also, the option of a manual (rare nowadays) or a double clutch 7 speed auto, and all for £56k, looks great and because it's a BMW, and especially an M, it is pretty much a guarantee it will drive and handle better than RS/AMG product.

On another non-performance related note - 34MPG and only £260 per year to tax is impressive for a car in this class. If BMW do the 0% PCP, with big deposit contribution like they did on the F10 M5, it'll be a hard proposition to ignore!

M3 4 door looks so much better than the M4.
Although I find the front bumper just a little bit too fussy. I think it would look much better without the small flaps in the side scoops.

Also, be careful if you come up against a 435d Xdrive. 0-60 in 4.7s, quicker than an S5 and the same as an RS 4! Plus the decent fuel economy it makes it an interesting prospect.

Trouble is it won't have the V8 growl that I currently have.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new RS 5 will have when that eventually gets released. Merc just announced a 4.0 twin turbo for the new C63. RS 5 will have some catching up to do in relation to the M4 and upcoming C63 in the next few years.

Tell the B7/8 lot, not much you need to be careful of in a tuned C6. :P

Your RS 5 will be 100x more interesting than a diesel BMW, even if it is quick. I know, I ran a 4.2 V8 Audi and a 335D at the same time.

IF, I had to buy a diesel, it would be a BMW, all the diesel BMW's I've had have handled so well, that I've taken them out on twisty roads and the steering, handling and balance have truly shocked me, I'd even go as far as saying I had fun, even getting the back end out and being a bit of an asbo... So yeah, they were diesels but they had a properly engaging chassis setup to make up for it. An Audi TDI would bore the hell out of me.

Will be a really nice car, the interior feels a little cheap I thought, be interesting to see if you think the same. If you're working for them now, keep an eye out for Loon who reguarly blasts past there, sometimes on site, too. ;)
