Eh? They've been there (twin turbo diesel), done that, about eight years back actually! I had a 335D with a twin turbo diesel for two years, it's Audi who it took nearly a decade to catch up. BMW have now moved the game on, don't knock the '50d until you've tried it, you thought the engine was a 5.0 10 mins ago which shows how little you actually know about it. If anything, the only pointless diesel ever made, if any, is the 6.0 V12 TDI in the Q7.

Re-read the post. I know about the TWIN setup. I was stating they should have KEPT woth that onstead of having another turbo IMO

If only you'd re-read your post, before posting it - you'd realise it didn't make much sense and I had to work with non existent words, so forgive me.
Anyway, they have stuck with it, but they've now also added the tri-turbo, the '35D has always been lag free, smooth and plenty powerful.

Sorry. I didnt realise that you are not an adult and cannot deciver between a simple error made by typing on a mobile phone. If you need me to re-write it to your intellect then I will get my 2 year old to get his ladybird book of words.

Hedge, only intended as good banter, didn't mean to offend you. You've been on here long enough to know how it is. :beerchug:

That's why you got frustrated then, get one ASAP I want to go for a blast but it's blocked in by six cars, family over for Christmas. Least it's secure.

I have a 740d msport lux ed. never really been a BMW fan but wanted an alternative to the RS6 as I wanted to keep it as a weekend car. BMW did me a fantastic deal on Contract Hire. Have to say the engine is sublime, its the best diesel engine currently available on the 7 series, with 308hp. it will map to around 380 and will add another 100 lbft, but even standard its just imperious. Feels like a Phantom the way it pulls, so quiet, smooth, and doesnt tail off in the top revs it pulls all the way to the redline.
Quattro in all seasons for Ass Kickin reasons.

If BMW could have used 2 turbos they would have. 50d is running 2.5 bar of boost or 36psi. It would be difficult to get 2 turbos to be lag free and have a seamless change from small to large and last over 100k miles. Having 3 turbos running at at 60% of their max is better than having 2 turbos flat out all the time.

35d runs 1.8 bar max
BMW 540i
2018 GTR
F90 M5
X3MC
RS3 Saloon
RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.
F10 M5 LCI still no rear grip lol
S7 black Edition Too big and heavy
S3 8V FL DSG 310ps, road noise is a joke
RS3 8P Rubbish
C7 RS6 Fantastic car but missed playing
GTR R35 800bhp, too extreme, crazy fast though
911 Turbo Remapped. Hated it
F10 M5, awesome but no rear grip
RS6 V10 700BHP crazy
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 600bhp

Picking up an M50D this morning as a loan car for a couple of months whilst my replacement M5 is being built etc.

Am really looking forward to having free use of this car for the next couple of months as on paper it appears a monster. Best part of 400bhp, 750nm & returns a combined figure of 43mpg. Should be quite the sleeper whilst also being a gigglefest.

I believe at least 2 of the turbos are triple scroll so even with 3 in total, i doubt turbo lag is an issue.
