It's not that, it's the fact the M135 is such a good car. It just lapped the ring in 8:05 with an amateur driver! This is an S3 rival remember, not an RS 3 one, the RS 3 lapped it in 8:20, tuned the M135 will also get ridiculous, plus the RS 3 should be faster in a straight line for how much extra it costs, which it isn’t, admittedly it might be where it matters, up to 120 MPH, but in that review the Beemer was faster in a straight line too.

Biased review from the biggest tit going, search for the RS3 vs M1, the RS3 beats it hands down.

Fifth Gear also did a recent test with the M1, the M1 just beat it round a track but it was an unfair comparison in my opinion as both cars were driven buy different drivers, if Tiff had driven both I think it would have been a different story..............

M135i vs RS3

I believe that dynamically both the current 1M and the M135i are better cars than the RS3 but having driven the 1M back to back against the RS3 I can honestly say I don't care.

My history includes a string of fast diesel BMW's and a pair of M cars so I am very comfortable with and a great supporter of BMW.

The way the RS3 covers ground in any weather at any time of day, the awesome noise it makes and the comfort behind the wheel trump lap times and track handling. On fast A and B roads it feels glued to the road providing just the right amount of feedback through the seat and the wheel......

It isn't just about stats and lap times / handling.

I have turned into a marketeer - 'it's the total package'

Or, maybe, just maybe – and call me crazy, but… the BMW was the just better car? Why does everyone have to take everything so personally, and make excuses for the RS 3?

yes, but the M1 vs rs3 I see as a different test.
What the point is that a car less than 30k that is not supposed to be punching at this weight can archive surprising results.
If the rs3 was better than the M1 or vice versa I don't think many will be surprised. Comparing apples with apples so to speak.

But the M135i is a curveball - it's much cheaper, and less powerful but ticks all the boxes bar initial striaght line speed. If the cars were similarly priced it would be a harder call.
It's very much like the Car and Driver test of the S6 vs M5 and AMG. The S6 really is a true competitor to these others but the paper stats show that it can certainly keep up there at a fraction of the cost.

Take everybody's point about Mr Harris, but every single review I've read (and there are plenty) of the same comparison comes to exactly the same conclusion. Every single one. Having said that, if money was no object I'd still have the RS3 cos the BM is just too fcuking ugly  . 1M though, that might be a different story.
