Hodgkin's Lymphoma, anyone here had dealings with it?

Hi all
Not after sympathy or any of that <beep> as I am not the kind of fluffball that needs it. I developed a lump around the size of a large egg under an armpit about 6 years ago and unfortunately saw a doctor that was filling in for my doctor (who has since been struck off I have been told....) and he told me that the lump was a Lipoma and to ignore it, nothing I could do with it etc and it might just go away one day.
Well..... I went to my new doctor this summer as it was pissing me off (looked awful) and he took one look at it and before I knew it I was booked in for surgery. They cut the lump out a few weeks ago and as soon as they saw it, alarm bells rang. Had chest x-rays the next day, they took blood tests while I was under blah blah. They got the results yesterday and wanted me straight in to see them, always a good sign.
Anyway, It was Hodgkin's Lymphoma and while he showed me that my lungs were clear, he really fudged over the blood test results and said that it wasn't his field of expertise and I had already been booked in to see the Hodgkin's specialist. They have told me that I can expect all the joys that come with Chemo or Radiotherapy in due course.
I haven't read up too much on it yet as today has all been a bit of a blur and I have been out and about but I was just curious as to whether any of you had dealings with it in the past or knew people that had?
Sorry if waffling a bit.
Cheers,
Nick.

That's balls matey. I wish you the very best, without wanting to trot out usual guff, keeping positive will take you a long way.
I can't help with the details on this one, but the chemo is very dependant on whether drip or pills.
Research it and ask questions, if you don't feel as though you're getting the answers you need push the doc/con.
If you can, go private.

Nick, that is certainly not the best news on the face of it, and while I know nothing about it, I have heard of a few people with this condition who have made a full recovery after treatment. Thoughts with you mate, so that you can join them.

Nick - the ex has got it and being treated with chemo and radiotherapy albeit in the US at the moment. If you can keep on top of it and get a good oncology expert it can be managed with no probs. You tend to put on a bit of weight though treatment etc and obviously the hair might go but hers didnt! Shes been up and down (not with me anymore may I add) and basically lives an ok ongoing life but needs to be careful with what she eats etc etc. I'm not sure if its the same for all but she has not been given a set time for it all to end so to speak. No change there then. For what its worth 1 in 3 people now get diognosed with some sort of C.... My Father in law also has just been diognosed with lung cancer and he had bowel already! I hate the bloody thing personally and try and do a lot of running and events for the various charities. I do know that survival from any sort of C is now extremely higher than it was a few years back. Ive had a heart attack already so I approach life now in a different way and love it more than I did before

and hell thats why there's been a fast car on the drive for the last few years!

Hang in there fella the odds are good

Sorry to hear your news - I lost my first wife to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. It's a little different, however a girl being treated at the same time as Rebecca had Hodgkins and did make a full recovery or at least the disease is still in remission.
This was over 10 years ago - but if I can answer any questions pm me (I'm happy to admit that with the advances in treatments maybe everything has changed). You're a determined guy and work very hard towards achieving what you want from what I can see on here - keep the same positive frame of mind!

Nick, what Andrew says is absolutely true. You're an exceptionally determined guy that knows what he wants, and you achieve what you want to too. You need to keep a positive frame of mind, that's really important. I didn't know what Hodgkins was, nor have I known anyone with it, but having had a look around there are lots of resources online, and of course, you have the resident doctor in the C5 forum too. Keep a positive outlook - I know you will, and call/message me anytime should you want to chat or meet up. I'll send you a message in the next few days, but contact me in the meantime if you need to. Xx

Thanks for the info guys (and the girly stuff....). I have had it for at least 6 years thinking about and I can only think of one other lump that I now reckon is probably another lymphoma (I cut it out of my leg myself once with a craft knife set but the bastard grew back). I figure that to have had it for this long and it not having sprouted up all over the place that I have noticed, means that it will hopefully be pretty contained.
Mev, weight gain? Are we talking lots of weight and was she a fit person/excercised during treatment? I still haven't had time to really go looking in to any of this as lots of work on but that is something that I really wasn't expecting.

Dude, I have been a chunky 300 lbs in the past and have no intentions of ever getting anywhere near that again!!!!!!!!!!!! As it stands from an injury-riddled summer that killed off almost all cardio for me, I am 240lbs, 20 higher than usual and 30 more than my leanest.
I bought another monitor for the garage (to replace the one that madam stoll because it was "pretty") and bolted the vr cycling machine back together last night so my fat ass will be back on that and climbing the alps asap.
