Home Cinema`s?

Post by Riz_RS4 » Fri Apr 04, 2003 7:52 pm

Just wondering what setup you ppl are running?

I currenty have two, one small one in my bedroom and one downstairs which is the main one :-

Pioneer 43" Plasma
Pioneer DVD player (multiregion)
Pioneer THX 7.1 Amp (2channel external)
Sony VHS
Jamo THX 7.1 speaker system

Is anybody still running laserdisc? and how does it compare to DVD`s? i missed out on the whole laserdisc era!

Main Lounge =
Toshiba 42" rear projection (for sale by the way )
Yamaha DSP A2 amp
Mission 753's
Rel QBase Sub
Yamaha - centre speaker & Front effects
Mission Rear effect speakers (can't remeber the model no.)
Sony DVP325 DVD player
Sky+ (cool or what?)
Sony MD
JVC SVHS

Study =
Sony 32" WEGA
XBOX
PS2
Sony VHS
Scan multi-region DVD
Sony Sky Digi-box
JBL DTS Hi-Fi (DVD,CD,Tuner,speakers etc...)

Never rated laser disc. Too bulky and had to change discs halfway through film....Still saying that, the early DVD were double sided and had to flip over halfway through..

Yeah probably is.......... good overall performance with little pixelization. if your going to use the full advantages of it you`ll need a good dvd player with progressive scan and component video outputs and digial surround sound is a must! Yep thats what i was looking at it was a toss between the yamaha and pioneer, but i really wanted THX certification so went the pioneer route!

T2: Ultimate Edition with DTS-ES and THX really rocks!!! my amp is split into to sections, the main amp powers 5.1 channels including the ability to have two subs and then i have another 2-channel amp running the extra rear channels to make it a full 7.1 THX system awesome! Sounds cool...
Mine amp is getting on a bit now (ah bless). Where as you've got the extra rear effect channels, I've got the extra two effect channels at the front. Yamaha's own version of 7.1 I think. And yeah T2 in DTs really does shake the house...

Why go to the cinema when we've got all our own gear eh?

I do not have DVD but keep looking. I just can't figure it out what is the point if I do go to the movies for the new rleases or just see ot on cable. My old system is still ants pants for classical anyway.
