Lap top works fine until you do a windows update or anti virus check, then it turns itself off after it tries going through a command sync (black screen with white wording), a blue screen comes up with loads of jargon, it only appears for 1/2 seconds before laptop switched it self off and reboots.
Also my Google Chrome does not work now...
My laptop is only 4 years old and running Vista SP2.
Could it be sunspots, a virus due to a porn overload or a burnt out chipboard? Any idea guys, im not a computer boff

Definitely massive porn use overload.
Apparently Bam's suffers the same problems.
Do you have a backup of everything? If you do it is probably worth reformatting your computer and starting again if you know how? I am no computer guru but for sure someone on here will be able to help you out.
4 years is a pretty good run with a laptop I reckon.

I'd diagnose (probably fix) it for you if I was nearby. Sure there's someone on here who's nearby and knows that want goes around, comes around.
I suggest you leave it turned off to minimise any further damage. First thing you might want to try is removing the hard disk (Usually a couple of screws at most) and boot without the hard disk using a "live CD" (
http://www.debian.org/CD/live/). This will narrow it down to if it is a hardware or software problem. I would leave the hard disk out as it might be easier to recover data if it really is a virus.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Will try that phil. No peeps or nothing. I googled and apparently its called the blue screen of death. But does not give no real fix.
Actually its 3.5 years old, its been working fine since last week! Do you think a reboot disk would solve it?

Do what Shane suggests first.
BUT... if push comes to shove, I can take a look at it for you.
I normally regret this as it's often "opening up a huge can o' worms"
It can take 5 mins or 5 days to sort. And one usually ends up wanting to take a hammer to it.
Another thing you could try first is:
Interrupt the boot process by constantly tapping F8 when the machine os first booting (before windows starts).
Should get an option to boot from DOS or Command Prompt. Choose that.
When you get a C:> prompt, type "chkdsk/f" (without the " ")
Hit enter.
Sometimes the simple things are worth trying first. This could take a while
Try rebooting when you get back to C:> prompt.
....Oh wait, did you say Vista ?
Second thoughts, take a hammer to it now, then <beep> it over a hedge !

Week in and laptop seems to be fixed, big thanks to Tim who took on the task to directing my laptop and doing surgery one it. All seems to be working now.
still not 100% what it actually was that was causing the "blue screen of death".
CheeRS Tim.
