WTD. Driving Instructor !

Post by Timster » Wed Aug 31, 2011 1:15 pm

Seriously. It's the girlfriends' birthday in a couple of weeks and I'd like to organise some time with an independent instructor.
Some of her habbits and lack of roadcraft scare me on occasion.
It would good if she could hear it from someone other than me ;-)

Preferably around the Herts/Nth London/Essex areas.
No track time. Just someone that really knows what their about (ie not an instructor that just gets people through their test).
There's "talk" of her maybe needing to use the RS at some point and quite frankly, the very idea scares the sh*t out of me.

Any recommendations?
Cheers.

Yes, Don't let her anywhere near the drivers seat. :biggrin3:

Few years ago I did the Porsche Precision driving Course .. One day and mainly on road .. learning to read the roads, traffic etc etc was excellent

http://www.porsche.com/silverstone/en/e ... s/courses/

Audi do http://www.audi.co.uk/about-audi/audi-d ... round.html

Other ideas are the various courses from the advanced places

CAT Driver Training
http://www.catdrivertraining.co.uk/

High Performance club
http://www.hpc.org.uk/

Prodrive used to do one as well .. looks like they only do the track day and Company driver stuff now

All offer training where you'll learn more about you and your car's abilities and develop a good road driving skill set. Shop around a few web sites and IMO find one that focuses on Mainly on Road use of a Performance car with perhaps a little track time for things like high speed (ie >70mph) and basic skid awareness stuff.. Ignore the All track day ones for now

Ex RS6 C6 Driver, gone but not forgotten.. The best car I have ever owned

Just a suggestion but what about getting her a 1 day session with the IAM. There will be a few observers around your area and will be pretty easy to organise and I would imagine inexpensive. They're pretty good at teaching you road observation. Might help her stay calm when she drives the RS (and you) :bigblink:
