Autotrader & Pistonheads are ruining my productivity!!

Post by Stalex » Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:08 am

2010 bonus payment came through this week...No, I'm not a banker so it is much smaller than you would imagine!!...and now it is burning a hole in my pocket.

Dilemma.

Currently running stock 04 B6 S4 Avant with 53k with plenty of knobs and whilstles. Everything sorted, reliable as anything, never lets me down and probably as quick a car as I'll ever need for my 20 mile commute......

but i can't help myself scanning the classifieds constantly!!

could trade up to (without having to sell the kids)

1) Higher mileage B7 RS4 circa 2006...with associated coking up issues and significant depreciation left when i nudge it near or over 100k in few years.

2) Mint B5 RS4...all seem to have high miles...but somehow seems like I'm going backwards in time...and I've got no off road parking and will be petrified of ruining a minter with the inevitable dings.

or should I just be happy with my lot, it is a perfectly good car....go on a couple of nice holidays and get back to work ???

stick an exhaust on the B6 if you don't already have a nice one and stick with what you have :D

A B5 RS4 parked in the street wouldn't look mint for long, or just wouldn't be there one day......

I went from '54 plate B6 S4 tip to a B7 RS4 with a 12 mile commute and trust me, the B6 isn't fast enough!
What's the situation regarding the cam belt, water pump, turbo's on the B5? If you buy the B5 (which is a legendary piece of kit) and then go sit in a B7 you'll be gutted as the 5 is very dated now.

All three are great cars but B7 wins hands down in my book unless you want to tune the tits off it in which it is VERY expensive in the B7.

Also depends on budget as there are plenty of B7's out there with sub 30k miles on them...

Good luck mate.

Thanks gents....you haven't helped at all :D !!

Keep B6 S4 and sort the exhaust.
B5 RS4 will get nicked/dinged in street and is dated now but a legendary bit of kit.
B7 is way faster and much nicer that B6 S4.

I really need an Avant and gonna take this one for a spin next week....
