I need to replace my hot water cylinder and ive had a quote from a plumber (who comes recommended) to replace it - £440. Now that seems a bit steep to me considering you can buy tanks for around £150.

Can anyone tell me if thats around the right price or am i being taken for a ride?

its about 6 hrs work tops, and maybe £30 for a bit of pipework and fittings depending on how old your current system is, you can pick up cylinders up on ebay for much less than £150 my reccomendation would be to take this opportunity to get it converted from vented to unvented. the cylinders cost a little more but youll get hot water at full mains pressure and youll be able to lose the hot water header tank in the loft. oh and the old cylinder is worth about £25 scrap value . where are you?

the oso and the megaflow cylinders are the best as they dont have an external expansion vessels and look a lot neater for it.
