3am and some one tried to break into my house
So its 3 in the morning and me and the mrs is woken up by someone trying to smash the down stairs front double glazed window! They never managed to smash it but in the time i was getting me boxers on and arming myself with ..... ( i better not say as i might get knicked ) they had given up and run away.
Now i dont think they was planning to steal my t.v etc as they was to noisy to get in and burgle my house with out me waking up! As me and a mate had managed to see off a crate of 24 becks earlier in the night, you would of thought i was out for the count, but they still managed to wake me up!! So what was they after? Smash and grab?
I think they must of been after the keys for my rs6 which was parked on the drive for the first time since i owned it with out being blocked in by other cars! I have only had it for a week and i get this <beep>. What do you lot think? Am i being paranoid?

RE: 3am and some one tried to break into my house
Mate, had virtually the same thing happen to me. I don't think your being paranoid, unless i'm the same as you!
Same sort of time (3:30). Car was parked in the next door driveway which is owned by my uncle, and its got no TV, radio, etc. Just basically a place for them to sleep at night.
They tried to get in through the toilet window, but was too small, so jumped into the back garden and broke the bathroom window. Luckily uncle woke up by then, came downstairs, turned the landing light on, and they fled!
I can't think of any other reason other than they were after the RS. And like you was after around 3weeks of owning the car. Was a real downer, and felt like selling it, but I didn't want to give into these cnuts! It seems like the RS's are one of "the" most targeted cars around!
I know exactly how you feel, but don't let these bastids put you off. You just got to be more cautious, if on the driveway park car(s) behind it.
But as has been said on here many a time, if they want it they'll do
anything to get it, and sometimes it's not worth risking your life.
Edited to say this sort of time (3-4am) seems to be the most common time for them to strike, as realistically speaking your in deep sleep.

RE: 3am and some one tried to break into my house
Sorry to hear of this - but it is the typical (if not only) way of nicking these cars - i.e. by breakling into the house and taking the keys. It doesn't only apply to our cars, but virtually any car that is less than 8/10 years old.
You could argue thatc if you park anotehr car behind, it'll make it more difficult for the toe rags, but then they may just nick both cars or simply reverse the blocking car out of the way and leave it in the road with the engine running.
Some people would recommend a whell lock - but the chances are you'll have the key for that on your car key ring anyway. A metal post on the driveway? Same would apply to that too.
Perhaps the best thing for the sake of your family is simply to allow them to take the car. You could have a tracker installed and/or an anti-jacking car alarm system so that they drive the car away and then it stops about ½ a mile from home. Clifford alarms do this sort of thing, but there are other makes around too.

RE: 3am and some one tried to break into my house
I hate reading threads like this, there seems to be a spate of incidents lately regards the RS4/RS6 model, and most in the SE England area, as I have been keeping a note!
gutted for you buddy, best thing I would use would be flood lights, and even a Surefire flashlight, these can blind ppl when when close, or even better a Mil Spec Green Beam laser (yes you can buy them) shine this in the burglars eyes and he ain't going to be sticking around, however these are non lethal measures, this is in regards to your comment above about arming your self!
I had the same thing a few years ago, I have some Pikeys try and tow my BMW away on the back of a converted Mini Van (Jig in the back), the alarm sounded and they scarped, the flash light method was employed after this incident, and also the use of a CCTV (passive/red light visible) this will be a deterrent!

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

So sorry to hear that, its so frustrating, and what can you do ...
I know it takes some of the pleasure away, but debadging or rebadging the car with a lower model badge I think does help ... just an idea ...

RE: 3am and some one tried to break into my house
A few years ago a good mate of mine was fortunate enough to catch an attempted burglar in the act: he heard the kitchen window smash and got there in time to see a hand and arm appear through the broken window which then proceeded to grope around trying to find the window latch ... my mate is a chef, and a very bad tempered one at that ... he promptly sunk a very large and very sharp kitchen knife into the forearm of the scumbag with great force whilst shouting abuse at him and laughing maniacally.
Needless to say the maggot withdrew the arm very quickly and ran off screaming in agony.
Result!

No, the scumbag didn't return. And yes: it was an excellent result.... and i'll bet he never returned!!! excellent result!
I have to state that my mate is somewhat of a major psychopath - so I'm not saying that this is a recommended course of action to take for others who find themselves in the same situation.

so i thought i was being a bit paranoid about someone trying to break into my house and steal me car. Well last night the alarm went off in my house that tells me when there is somebody on the drive! So i jump out of bed and ran to the window. There was 2 lads on the drive, one walking to wards my car and the other already at the front of my car but crouched down so his head was level with my bonnet. I dont know if he was trying to open the bonnet or just the watch out, but he spotted me straight away. They both ran off before i could get the window open and the Mrs of the air rifle that was about to become there best friend
Just as well really as the Mrs is still not talking to me and i would of probably got myself knicked for defending my property
Anyway i found out the other night off the guy that fitted my windows for the previous owner that the reason that they never managed to smash the glass is because the glass is a special high security glass that is almost impossible to smash. Apparently the previous owner had it fitted to all the downstairs windows. Lucky for me i guess.

Thief....
Cars likes ours need to be locked in a garage at night....always. I never leave mine on the driveway even during the day , so i don't attract attention.
Avoid to use an air rifle because you will be in trouble big time... if you play golf use a golf club to protect yourself IN your house.
You need to do something to hide your car at night overwise they will be back i am afraid....
Good luck pal.

RE: Thief....
Man I feel for you!
Unfortunately I have something else in the garage, so the RS has to be left outside. But now major precautions are taken!

Looks like i will be going with my car when they decide to pinch it. I have left the front door un locked with the keys in view ( saves on damage ! )
Got me crate of beers and me laptop on wifi so can keep myself entertained. Bloody cold tho
