Bit of help please chaps!
I realise this is a long shot, but I was wondering if one of you chaps or chapesses could help me out with a little IT issue I have.
I had a virus a couple of weeks ago, and somehow it affected several of my drivers. As part of the antivirus malarkey I had to delete these drivers, but one of them has left me nackered.
I have got back all of my drivers but one, after looking at the log file it is nlscc.dll. In XP Pro it's in c:\windows\system32\ but I think it might be a Compaq job. I have contacted Compaq and they have been piss useless, and so I thought I'd try you chaps! I'm hoping it's common to several machiens, but if it helps, mine's an Armada M700.
Go on and save my day,
Thanks in advance!

If you can drive it, I can crash it
Re: Bit of help please chaps!
I`ve just done a search on my Windows XP Pro machine and cannont find that file... so i think its not a standard file that came with XP. Could it possibly be something else, soundcard, video card library?
Sorry i couldnt be of more help.

Re: Bit of help please chaps!
Cheers Riz, you're a legend. The driver has something to do with CD/DVD drives. I have one of those "pull the bugger out and put another in" drives, so I have either CDRW, DVD, or Floppy disk. Since I deleted the virus it just doesn't recognise the DVD or CDRW drives, but the floppy works fine. Annoying thing is it's only a 22kb or so file! Without it my machine's a bit useless!
Thanks again Riz, any more takers?!

Could you try downloading and installing all the latest Armada M700 drivers from HP and then checking to see if it's been installed? One of them is bound to have your missing file! Armada M700 files for XP Pro

I'm on it Chris! I've got my last exam tomorrow so I'm panic revising and trying to fix this at the same time - not going to have broadband for another week and a half after tomorrow! I'll try and post tomorow to see if it's worked, meanwhile, if anyone else has the damn thing, I'd be superbly greatful if you'd email it to me or something please!
Thanks again Chris, and everyone,

Re: Bit of help please chaps!
I'm afraid the updates didn't work chaps, so I'm still in need of a new solution. Have just sent a whole new batch of emails out to HP and Compaq support staff, hopefully someone will reply.
All this for 22kb!

Re: Bit of help please chaps!
Is anything actually not working? Some viruses hide themselves in WINNT\System32 with a random filename that looks like it might be important so you don't delete it. Even a Google search for the filename comes up with nothing, which is very strange...

Re: Bit of help please chaps!
Oh yes it's important! It's part of the CD drive system, so now my computer doesn't recognise the fact it's got a CD/RW drive inserted, or the DVD either, but the floppy drive works fine.
Got a reply from HP (wahey!), but it's not too successful for me. They've said all I can do is run the System File Checker. Nice plan, but the trouble with that is I need an XP Pro CD. Well I upgraded my OS from '98 off of a.........backup disc, ehem Unfortunately I have "lost" the original and backup discs (all very legal you understand). So it looks like I shall be rooting round uni trying to source a disc!
Cheers all,

Re: Bit of help please chaps!
Did you try the add new hardware wizard with the CD/DVD plugged in, xp may have a driver that you can use to get the CD/DVD working.

Re: Bit of help please chaps!
I have indeed tried this approach but it didn't work either. If I do a search for new hardware it says there's nowt new there. Working on a guy I know at Compaq now to get him to sort the bastard machine out. Had nothing but trouble with it since I bought it.
Cheers everyone
