Hello there,

I have been buying DVD`s many years now (even before they hit the UK) and have bought from many different places.

My first titles i bought from Manchester before it was made illeagal to sell Region 1 (NSTC) dvd`s over the counter.

I then turned to the internet and thought i`d share the sites i use and recommed them.

Firstly i used to visit DVD Mod
This at the time was slightly more expensive than UK PAL titles but me being a movie fanatic had to buy before they came out here. 1-2weeks delivery when instock

Secondly i found Play 247
This was alot cheaper than DVD mod and delivery was prompt without any problems. 1 week delivery when instock

Thirdly i was recommended a place in Canada which is a family run business. DVD Soon Very cheap compared to the other sites and generally cheaper than UK PAL titles including postage.
1-2weeks when instock

Since i bought my S3 i used to buy loads but somewhat carmed down alittle now

I assume you have a region-free player then? My Philips is region coded, but I think there's a region-free code using one of those All-in-one remotes.

Problem is, the Philips is a bit picky about disc quality, especially on 'special' edition video CD movies (ahem!). My mate's £75 no-name would play a movie from a beermat if you shoved one in it, but the company he bought it from is no longer in business. I need to get round to tracking one down I think.

As an aside, I've got a great Sony external DVD writer, and I'm now trying to figure out how to edit out all the annoying trailers and messages that you can't fast-forward through and reduce 9GB DVD images so they'll fit onto a 4.7GB disc...

Anyone looking for DVD/CD-R compatability or region unlock codes for their player should check out VCDhelp.com

use a bit of software called dvd shrink - it emulates dual layer so you can copy the 9 gb to a blank disk. search the net as it's freeware.

Ta jon, will check that out.

I'm still trying to learn how the structure of a DVD works (menus, languages, soundtrack selection etc). The most elaborate copy protection scheme I've seen yet on a disc is on, shall we say a certain type of movie where the action is more important than the plot. Somebody lent me one to try and figure the way the disc has been produced, purely in the interests of scientific research of course. Ahem.
