I was paying 83.9p last week, down to 81.9p this week. Really do not understand how these prices can vary so greatly from region to region. Can individual stations set whatever price they want or is this determind from HQ?.

Well around watford ive always found it very cheap there because its close to M25 and other big towns so pricing is more competitive. 3 miles from my house its 83.9 [img]images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

It is local as it has to reflect local conditions: Where the buyer has little choice (motorway services) or it is in a peak location (commuter route), the oil companies cash-in and charge higher prices. Whereas in less busy areas, and where there's a lot of competition (especially near a supermarket), the price will be lower.

In my area the difference is always clear. My local Shell is in a quietish part of Reading, and Optimax is currently 78.9p. The one at J11 of the M4 will be 1p more, and the one at Coppid Beech in Bracknell will probably be 2p more as it's run by the millionaire John Nike and he clearly needs the extra profit.

Dunstable: 78.9p
Reading, Oxford Road: 78.9p
Reading, J11 M4: 79.9p
Bracknell, Coppid Beech: 80.9p

Maybe we ought to keep a thread going about the cheapest Optimax in each area (i.e. give specific details of which filling station), to help us all if we go to different parts of the country?

Optimax is still 76.9ppl up here in sunny Lancashire [img]images/graemlins/1syellow1.gif[/img] (Rawtenstall to be exact). It is damn cheap, wasn't that long since 95RON was costing that much [img]images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Filled up at the Shell Garage on the A25 going into Sevenoaks - just before traffic lights at the Bat and Ball. It was 81.9 p last time I filled up there.
