Would you know why it would be a Cat S on the auction but not coming up on HPI?Arnie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 12:55 amHello,
Sorry to come here uninvited but I wanted to give a warning to a potential car which can be purchased by members here:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 6078777780
The seller claims HPi Clear and this is correct as per official database.
Our report is clear, with the exception of salvage records

Not the biggest damage but when buying a premium car I would like to know it was sold in January at salvage, labeled as category S, most likely due to suspension damage.
P.S Please don't ban me for advertising, I am trying to help but I promise I will sort out my forum Sponsor account this week. I had few Audis in the past and if monies ever allow, I will be searching for a family-friendly RS
Yes, it was explained in below article by AutoExpress:asifg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 10:02 amWould you know why it would be a Cat S on the auction but not coming up on HPI?Arnie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 12:55 amHello,

I would be pretty annoyed if I bought a car and then saw photos of it as a salvage car! I'll be using your service again on my next purchase for sure.

Long story short 1 in 9 writeoffs is missing from HPI.
MIAFTR, the dabatasw used to record them, is voluntary and there is no law in place regarding it.
3% insurance companies dont supply data there at all. And those who do have no penalties for late submissions or no submissions at all. Official salvage code says MIAFTR should be updated in reasonable time, it can be week after car is written off, month, year... or never;)
There is 90k cars missing from last year alone. Obviously not all go via salvage so we can’t pinpoint each not updated on HPI but we see plenty of them.
