Garage door and roof

Post by chunky79 » Sun Jul 01, 2018 4:56 pm

Folks.
Looking to get the flat roof done on my garage, it's not square as there's a store on the side of it but around 8m x 6m. Think it's between felt and rubber.

Also looking to replace my up and over garage door to a sectional (14ft x 7ft) with electric opener. Had some people recommend Hormann, Alutech and Novoferm.

Any folks had either done recently and fancy firing up some comments?
I'm based in the West Midlands so if you know of a good company for either please let us know

Many thankings

I had 2 sets of doors done about a year and a half ago by these guys:

No problems with them.

They have a showroom in Leicester and one in Brum too.

I think they were Novoferm. And they are sectional. Makes a big difference in clearance either side of wing mirrors.

Actually, one of the side panels came loose the next day. They overran on their first job so got to me quite late but stayed really late into the night to get both doors done. But due to the lack of light at that time they didn't bond the side panel properly but I called them and they came back the next day to fix it. One of the other ones came away later on a really hot day bit I just squirted a load of grip filler in the gap and it's been fine ever since.

Nice one Mike. Got someone coming out to quote for a Novoferm, I've seen them on £1m house builds so they can't be too crap. Been told Hormann are having serious issues at their head office and hardly any doors are coming out.

My supplier is in the North London and they don't cover more than about a 30 mile radius from there, but I have a Hormann sectional which is awesome. No problems with it in the 3 years since it was fitted. Very secure and easy to maintain.

Apparently they've had a lot of workers quit so suppliers are struggling to get doors from them.

Wonder what the hell the chap was on about saying they can't get Hormann doors then? Don't think anyone wants my money anyway, they say they are going to come and measure up the roof and door but then don't come.

I had 2 companies do that when I was getting windows and my chimney done. The chimney one was weird, he replied to my first email asking for a date suitable for him to come round. I emailed him back and then he just went silent and din't reply to any of my remaining emails or phonecalls.

The window people just didn't turn up, I just assume that they made their money that week and couldn't be bothered.

It's strange, not like they'll be small jobs that they won't make money off. Think they'll be around £2500 each.

My thoughts exactly.

The chimney one I can understand as it was just under £1k to complete.

Something just like ' Thanks, but we only take these jobs on...etc..'. At least then the prospective client is aware they aren't interested.

The window and doors came to just under £7k , so not small numbers, yet just no explanation at all as towhy they didn't turn up and I wasn't going to waste my time finding out why either.

I'm just outside West Mids,(Staffs), the door guy is from Walsall.
I'll pm you his number tomorrow if you like,
I'm also a roofer but I'm not taking anymore work on at the moment, I'm booked up till mid November or I'd offer to come and give you a quote.
