Yes, that is a class-A dickface move. ImageShack did something similar and I dumped them. I went back through my tutorial threads and updated the photo links but a lot of information has been lost forever.

It's a real problem and I hope they go bust.

I use imgur which (for now) is pretty good.

I think disappearing hosting is just the nature of the beast. Internet atrophy... Looks at footers... he's still linking to a repository that doesn't exist!

Yeah, it's kinda gutless innit. Even the wording "Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting"... and when you do update it, that'll be $399USD, sir.
Front bottoms.
Go and look at the C5 Rs6 picture thread, it's poked.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Is anyone actually going to go back and update their dead links? I don't even remember where 95% of the photos I've posted are. Oh well, download my 'bucket' and migrate to one of the 1000 other still free hosting sites from now on. I don't use it for backing up photos or anything, it's literally just for forum links.

That's if you can get the bucket website to work properly. It won't let me view my own pictures. It's an f-ing joke.

so many free alternatives to photobucket. That company is literally AIDS, and has been for years.

I was curious to see if Photobucket's share price has risen or dropped since their blackmail raid but I can't find the information.

I remember when Logmein did something similar and I thought they would go bust but it turned out to be an astute business move for them to blackmail customers.

Logmein and CumBucket aren't even in the same league, LMI had to start charging, their offering had matured and the overheads outstripped the offering (i.e. free). LMI have made some very very smart purchases over the years, they're very strategic with just last year finally 'merging' with Citrix. CumBucket ain't got nothing. *Piece of <beep> company.

*He says, when actually knowing zero about them...

So there is no way to recover these lost photos?
I am interested in this report for example viewtopic.php?f=2&t=61029

Neither Google-cache nor web.archive.org have stored it. Is there any other way to recover?

It looks like Cumbucket have relented and are now doing 3rd party hosting for non-commercial use. 119USD.
