Hi!
My girlfriend is going to study in london for 6 months and i was thinking buying her 6 month pass for the underground, busses and tram's for christmas.
I've been looking on here but i dont really know what to choose.

Hi mate,
You can't get 6-month tickets as far as I am aware. I've worked in London for 15 years and it's only ever been a monthly or annual ticket you can buy.
Presuming your girlfriend is over 18, you can get a 18+ student oyster card that saves you 30%, which she will need to apply for. You need to give your London address etc when applying, so it might be hard for you to do that yourself if you don't know all the details.
I would suggest just telling her what you plan to do, you can dress it up however you want, and when she registers you can set up the account using your bank details and just get a monthly ticket that auto-renews. Obviously you must remember to cancel it when she leaves London.
Take a look here for more info.

I've just ditched my Oyster card and now just use contactless.
Changed after I topped up my Oyster but for some reason the payment hadn't uploaded when I used it the following day. So the card didn't have enough credit to open the barriers to commence the homeward leg of my journey. Extremely annoying. My credit card was showing the payment had gone through, but a week later it had been refunded?
I don't use my main current account debit card tbh, I'm too security conscious (skeptical?), but I have a second current account from my mortgage provider, so I use this. I gather contactless has weekly capping as standard if you are regular user. I don't think Oyster has this?
