Horology....

Post by smudge » Wed Apr 08, 2015 4:57 pm

Do we have any bonafide Horology experts in the house? If so, does anyone have any feedback on the new Rolex Yacht Master?

I don't own a Yacht and I'm not much of a master, but I think it's bloody lovely:

Ah, a quick google search revealed this: £14,750 for the 37mm dial, £16,650 for the 40mm dial. Available from summer 2015.

I think I'll take a rain check.

I much prefer the IWC Ingenieur Constant Force Tourbillon

A mere snip at £205,000.00.

IWC is THE watch maker, I'll have a low-rent anthracite PVD Big Pilot on NATO strap, thanks.

I had a lovely big pilots about three years ago, one of the limted ones IWC occasionally produce. I was lucky enough to have had it 'donated' as part of a deal with a client. But then one night in town I drank the fizz some girl was supposed to be drinking, transpired her drink had been spiked. That was an expensive night......

And no I didn't spike myself!!!! :<beep>_you:

A nice choice, I do like a chunky watch. IWC are my Audi R8, not quite there through lack of funds, but 1 day.

I'll stick to my TAG & Omega for the mean time, unless I can sell a kidney, or lease the children for pit work !!

Can't sell the kids, too much effort went into getting them :biggrin3:

$40,000,000 for a watch is insane

Yes, it's lovely but anyone dropping over £5k on a watch needs their head examined.

I've been looking at watches for months now. Decided I want one for my 30th.

Been looking at a Zenith El Primero, a Baume & Mercier Capeland and a Panerai Submersible. Making a final decision is much harder. I'd love a Panerai Bronzo but at over £20k think that will have to wait!!

For inspiration follow Watch Anish on Instagram, he reviews and showcases some amazing time pieces!!

And then there's the Apple watch.......

:biggrin2:

One thing I will say is this. 2 years ago I purchased a very simple yet classic Rolex. Nothing fancy, but being a Rolex it wasn't cheap. Some people judge in different ways as to the reasons for owning it before they know the facts.

For me, it was a way of getting something that over time will start to (albeit slowly) increase in value. When my eldest turns 25, she will get it as a birthday present. I plan to do the same for my other 2 children also.

That's what I've done. I bought a Planet Ocean (45.5mm Caliber 8500 with orange accents) the year my son was born, so he can have a birth year watch. Which is something I cannot afford with the birth year watch I really want. A '75 Sea Dweller double red (probably on Velcro mind you) - that will be 30,000 pound sterling, sir...
