right my phone is bust, dropped it etc and i need to get a new one

my criteria is

bluetooth
GPRS
big address memory - currently have 500 on phone and 100 on Sim with about 10 free spaces
must be able to get car kit, but i guess bluetooth head set is an option

er thats main things, thought i would go for one with a camera as it is rude not to but as far as i can tell this narrows the field to

sony ericsson P800
Nokia 3650

anyone got either of these phones? if so what do they think?

i am a heavy user for work and usually exceed my 1100 free minutes per month

also i once had the ericsson smartphone, which i got fed up with inside 2 dyas, smart - it was, a phone it wasnt - kept dropping calls and couldnt get a signal, however i have faith in all sony

so really confused, anyone got any good ideas?

Have you tried the SPV powered by Microsoft SmartPhone 2002, exclusive from Orange ?
Loaded with mobile versions of Outlook 2002, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, etc.
Sync is easy as it comes with an USB cradle, like a Palm.
Plus a slot for an SD Card (up to 256 mo extra so there you go for your one billion contacts ;-).

Limited autonomy but what a beautiful screen for navigating on web and read mails on the go (it keeps synchronizing through GPRS on regular interval)!
I have one, very happy.

Here are two links (not from Orange)

link to SPV

Link to SPV 2

The SPV def does not have bluetooth or IrDa (infra-red). Unless you specifically need a fashion accessory (colour screen, polyphonic ringtones, camera blah, blah ..) I would plump for the Nokia 6310i - good business phone, good signal to noise ratio, reliable, easy to use interface, memory capacity 500 on phone + 90 on sim.

I don't know these Nokia and Sony phones, so I'm neither for or against them

About Bluetooth, I think you're both right. Sorry.

But then I always wonder why have Bluetooth in general, and on a mobile phone in particular ?

About the SPV being a fashion victim accessory because of its color screen : it's as close as the RS4 being a butcher's car because its trunk. No offense to butchers, tough job if any.

You can do things out-of-the-box with the SPV because of its combination of a 65000 colors screen + Windows OS + Outlook + HTML Explorer + cradle + SD Card, that you can't even dream of with most non Windows phones, if any.
Plus Tri-band for extensive travelling, weight under 100g.

And there are replacements of the SPV coming in as well, so I'd only suggest one to go in a shop and give it a look.

Eric
PS : you can actually use a 512mo card, not only a 256mo.

OK, my point is that if Bushy doesn't need e-mail, web access on the move, why bother with an SPV or similar. The SPV tries to do too many things, and whilst it's OK, it's not a GREAT phone. Too slow in the menus, locks up (ala blue screen). Not against the SPV in particular, but generally, colour screens and the like sap processing power and you end up waiting for the phone to catch up.

With respect to Bluetooth, it has 2 uses - primarily it can be used with bluetooth headsets or car kits, but is can also be used to hook up with a PDA for web access/synchronisation etc...

Nokia everytime. I have had Nokias for years and they have been great. The only one I had problems with was the 6210, but that's fine now, MrsT has it. I am currently using two 6310i, and they work everywhere I've been to in the world.

My personal opinion is avoid the gadgets and just look for a good phone .

True, true...
But the released patch did fix that darn well so it's quite fast and didn't crash since then.
Now that (ie. patch) also carries its truth about a Windows OS phone : it may crash during navigation, you'll need to reboot, and you must download patches to minimize that.
Never had a crash while making/taking a call though.

Thanks for the update on Bluetooth.
Guess I'm too old-fashioned for that cause (1) I don't have a PDA and (2) I use the supplied wire-headphone that came with phone.

Three questions on the Bluetooth headphone :
- how is it powered and is the autonomy like a phone or longer ? (ie no need to recharge both simultaneously)
- is it light to carry on/in the ear ? and small enough to be used under a motorbike helmet ?
- what's the cost for a unit ?
