I am off to Samoens [Grand Massif] for New Year and for the first time I am driving the family over there.
Can anyone give me solid advice on the rules/requirements for driving to ski resorts in France?
Specifically - snow chains - are they mandatory [IE The law to carry them]/or optional - can you get/hire them for our 19" wheels? I don't plan to buy winter tyres as my GoodYears still have about 3mm tread left. Most of the journey is highway until the last 15/20 miles so I am thinking they are not required?
Thoughts / advice appreciated lads/lasses.
Cheers
Kev

If the cars a keeper buy yourself a set of 18s and winter tyres. You won't regret it.

Blimey there's an offer you can't refuse! Sync, just make sure your locking wheel nut key is the glovebox, not under the boot floor......

I'll make sure I come and see you regardless!
I am told you need to carry them anyway so I am gonna buy a set of chains for £60

Make sure you are in front as Kev doesn't like being overtaken

OT. But how do these chains behave with our AWD cars. If it’s front wheels only (as advised in the link above), doesn’t it upset all the rolling radius’ of the rears / diff’ etc ?
Are we better off with 4 chains?
