IP CCTV Cameras

Post by ROY » Fri Mar 29, 2013 9:31 am

Anyone using IP cameras for home security
Seems like technology is really moving on and these are pretty good now
Looking at getting an outdoor and an internal camera
Not for continuous streaming of video but when motion is detected
Any advice chaps cause there seems to be all kinds of models makes and versions to waste money on and get the wrong kit

Tread carefully, a lot aren't Mac compatible and if you want to view on your iPhone its very hard.

I've got a system in my factory that works well but is old tech, needs XP and Activ X to work, you can access it from any XP computer though.

I bought a decent low light camera and auto iris lens on ebay for around £20. It's a few years old and the traditional seperate lens style but works well. Then I found on ebay an Axis 247 video server that does Web streaming, email, motion sensing and a whole lot more and is Mac friendly (see http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers ... ab=general).

It probably ended up costing a bit more than a recent all in one set up but offers a huge amount of flexibility.

Look at foscam cameras. They're very good and outdoor ones can be had on eBay for around 60-70 quid. Got it working fine on my mac and can pull up a live feed on my iPhone or iPad anywhere in the world with 1 click. Very impressed. They do emailing and motion detection etc.
