Don't think anyone's arguing that point: the attitude taken towards the original (innocent IMHO) poster is the problem. Sort that out (apology, perhaps?) and it all goes away.

You might want to pay attention to the site terms and conditions though, which could, I daresay, be refined a little: they explicitly ban use for any/all advertising unless prior written consent is obtained. Fair enough, and it is your ball after all. (Mind you, written consent is a touch 1900's ;))

However, If I post a picture of my car that happens to have one MRC and one dealer sticker on it, what gives? The clause, and its application in the thread in question here, says that's advertising. Therefore I can't do it. But... no reasonable person would haul me up for it.

It's only a shade or so of grey from there to the post that's caused this fuss, but someone's been rudely hauled over the coals by one of the crew for it. It would all have been so different if the approach had been measured.

It's really soured my opinion of RS246 at the moment.

- The site got to the point it was hacked on a regular basis and was consuming a ton of bandwidth, so the hoster wanted out.
- The domain owner got fed up with Audi and redirected it to subaru.co.uk

Lack of funding meant that there was no cash to host it; hence the agreement was taken to shut it down.

Tha point i was making about RS4.org was that the site was not very freindly to mechanical retards like myslef and inoscent comments got shot down in flames you were made to feel a right plonker if you did not have a mechanical degree in engineering and a few previous members i have spoke felt the same but the end of the site had to do with the hackers etc my take on it was a bit diffrent in house bickering but that might be just Chinese whispters and got diluted throught the grape vine

I have been blissfully unaware of most of the stressy issues related to this and the detailing thread, but I do feel moved to make a couple of points...

Julian is a nice guy, I have met him a couple of times now and I can imagine for B5 owners he is a valuable source of knowledge, he loves modding his car and is passionate about it.

It seems to me that all Julian has done is stick up for the freedom of speech in what should be a public forum, with guidelines. It is preferable for all to be part of a site that does not have such a draconian style of censorship or what is now painfully obvious to all forum members a club of certain friends... if you don’t agree with them or join in, posts are censored or deleted.

I am extremely concerned about the attitude of Simple1 having read some of his responses and posts. I think that JR came in at the late stage as a voice of reason, but Simple1 had already done considerable damage to the credibility of this site.

I had my car detailed and posted who did it and at what cost and would gladly have passed on contact details of who did it if asked. Why should this put me in breach of forum rules? I had my car mapped and posted, what I thought was a balanced and unbiased report on how I found it, again confirming who did it and what it cost me. (they are a site sponsor so no breach of rules there), but as has already been commented on, I don’t see the other tuners banner ads supporting the site who the above moderator is very happy to plug and promote at every opportunity. I am another who is considering removing the RS246.com stickers that until now had been proudly displayed on my car promoting this site...

I think part of Julian’s frustration is the double standards and inconsistent moderating, I have to agree with him, It has not been pleasant to observe and that’s all that is seen in the public forum, god knows what has gone on behind the closed doors of the PM side of this site...

I am another that has used CraigyB and like many others I feel that he was not in breach of any rules as he personally never promoted himself, but offered help and got recommended by us that had used his services.

I have been using car forums for many years now on various marques, it is sad that this one is now tainted in this way, I am losing interest in belonging to a small elite club, I wanted to be part of a global community of support, ideas and answers....

I would gladly make a cash donation to the site if it meant that it was not moderated in such a fashion, as I am sure, would many others...

thinking back, I even put a link to a site where I purchased a decent anti static screen cleaner and cloth that really does a great job on the screen in my car. It was never attacked for being a breach of rules or advertising someone else's site! its these double standards that are frustrating everyone!...

Sorry to go on, but this all sucks...

What the **** I've not been able access this site too often recently due to restrictions at work. And when I finally do manage to come back it's evolved into the Middle East :x

Come on guys - I've read both sides of the argument and can see valid points from both sides. The thing that peevs me off is the childish nature in some of the posts, which do nothing but add fuel to the fire... which started off as just a spark.

I've never met Julian, but know from my first days here that he likes a bit of gentle banter. In fact, I remember when I first came here he called me a "Nob". I was a bit thrown by this as I was just jesting with him on 1 thread and was met by a barrage of name calling from him. But it turned out I was a little too sensitive  and did not get his humour at first.

At the same time, he has been an incredibley usefull source of info and advice to all of us... especially the people like me who know squat all about mechanics, engineering, mods etc etc etc. I even have the Julian Hole In The Box Mod because of him :D

Anyways, I'm sneekily accessing this site at work, so before I get busted, let me get to my point.......

What do all you guys, espcially the mods, think of maybe re-drafting/tweaking the rules and regs for this site?

And, most importantly, a quick polite chat over a couple of cups of tea between Julian and the mods to sort out all the problems :D
01 RS4, Milltek, Dahlback Racing rears, RS6 fronts and a few bits to be added.

Also, as I hate driving, my toy to play with - a Honda CBR F Sport

Go back to my post of 19 October (10 days ago)....
Is anyone going to extend an Olive Branch? Or start to build a bridge?

The principles may be perfectly valid, the comments on both sides may be perfectly valid.

I'll help...copy and paste as appropriate...

Sorry guys, my comments may have been a little OTT, but that's the way I am.

Whilst I stand by what I say, I am sorry if anyone took offence at the way my feelings were conveyed.

Can we kiss and make up?
or
.....?
Sorry that's a bit of a "bump"!
