I have the tomtom app on my phone for driving close to speed limits on roads I don't know. Does anyone know how this compares with the tomtom (with speed camera subscription obviously).

I have a Tomtom GO live with traffic and speed cams. I do NOT rely on it. It misses speed cams in London that have been there for years. That's why I got interested in the Road Angel in the first place.

I use the CamSam app for Android and it's not let me down yet but it abuses your phones battery, best to leave it plugged in!

As an alternative, I'd really recommend Waze (now owned by Google). It's a free App and is great for SatNav, so much so that I use it in place of the very latest map on my BMW. It's community-based and has speed camera/police speed trap alerts. Plus the SatNav itself is great and has knocked off 25% (30 mins) off my Monday morning journey to the office

Sorry I meant to say on my car I use for work, which is also German but obviously nowhere near as good as my RS4. In my defence, I have owned 4 other Audis, but the aforementioned German brand car is great for work.

Can I stay please or am I banished to BMWlander to ponder where I went wrong in life?!

Waze has changed recently. And not for the better imo

It used to flag all speed cameras - great
Now it only flags cameras if you are over speed when approaching them, hence in a average limit you can get no prior warning, speed up, and when you see the 2nd cam are screwed - not great

Ive also read somewhere that to use any speed camera app/device info will soon be illegal, like jammers so i cba

Got my first ticket a few weeks back in 8 years. Mobile, nothing could have saved me except slower driving

Likewise with my Tom-tom. It does seem to miss some of the cameras.

I read somewhere that Road Angel runs on the same network/system as Tom-tom so have been a bit sceptical about getting one.

Would you guys definitely recommend one?

Just had a look at the reviews on Amazon and they are far from encouraging. Also, a lot of the negative reviews are recent, which leads me to believe that they haven't bothered trying to improve the product. Think I'll pass on it.

I wish the Tom tom worked better. It's so bloody frustrating that the technology is there but the database isn't properly maintained or updated. Yet the live traffic is awesome. Typical of Tom tom to implement something in a half-arsed way.

I'm currently using an Inforad device. It's a cheap bit of kit but seems effective once the set up has been tweaked. Also free updates (but you have to plug it into a PC/laptop).

The speed limit database on the Road Angel Gem + is diabolically inaccurate, of the roads I drive on the way to work the speed limits are wrong on well over 50% of them.

Yes I know you can supposedly correct the speed limit, but I've been doing that every weekday on one stretch of road for over a year now and STILL the database is wrong - do they actually take any notice of corrections from users? It doesn't look like it.
