I have Raid. tho im only using it as a extra ide channel, so everything can be "Master" and makes burning CD's alittle more stable/ quicker.
as i understand it, i can have Raid on 2 sata channels.
or have to use an IDE and a sata to IDE converter..
as there is only one RAID IDE port.
never dabbled with raid.
Overclocking computers
Re: Overclocking computers
I think the mirror-raid function would be very useful as you wont need a backup device. its just a exact copy of your other drive, not upgraded my crappy pc yet holding out until ive sorted all my debts out.
I`m just a hardcore petrol head Re: Overclocking computers
Hi Paul,
I ain't the best guy when it comes to your individual configuration (my points above are only "theoritical", other things being equal) so I'd definitely trust more a small PC shop specialised in components which you'd bring your PC to for audit. And shop around.
I heard a lot of IBM's past defects too but it seems the 180GXP range is above these (and probably the fastest serie vs Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital).
In any case, I found the prices of the latest HDs to be so low compared to other components (you can buy five 80Go vs a single Radeon 9700) that I dived straight into it (and gained extra storage potentially since I kept the 1st drive).
FYI, I used "DriveCopy 4.0" to simply duplicate my 40Go into the new 80Go one : took 4hours but after I switch the 80Go from Slave to Master, I simply rebooted and done !
No Windows re-install, no install of all software, no nightmare setup of email/Adsl/VPN accounts, all passwords saved, all Bookmarks.
Superbly painless
Note : I kept my 40Go's initial setup, simply hide it, so if the 80Go crashes, I simply reverse the Slave/Master and I'm back to business.
