NTL 3mb broadband

Post by DuncS3 » Thu Mar 10, 2005 6:34 pm

If like me you have the NTL broadband service you can easily upgrade online here:

http://www.ntlworld.com/data-feeds/edit ... emodem.php

I just went from 1.5mb to 3mb for the same monthly price...

Same at Telewest/Blueyonder, they doubled it for free automagically :)

BT are now beginning a free upgrade from 512k to 2mb (will take them 5 months(who says BBand is fast!))

The Catch ------- only 15gb a month then an additional £2 per gig if you go over!

Plus Net www.plus.net has a 2mb service for £14.99/mth but only includes 1gb/mth. but for me it's a cheap option as I only use 1-2gb/mth

the other catch is that you've got to live near to the exchange. I live 3.5 km's away from our local exchange and the 2mb service won't work so BT won't upgrade me!

In that case, did they move you to the lower tarrif Simon ?
I'm about 4 miles from our exchange, but so far they've not reduced my bills. Might have to check my link performance...

mm, I got :
Downstream 407 Kbps (50.9 KB/sec) 439 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 243 Kbps (30.4 KB/sec) 262 Kbps (inc. overheads)

So I gues I'm still on a 512K link

not got a refund yet John but I'm probably going to scrap BT and go over to NTL.

I understand BT will send you an email saying that you will be upgraded. I'm guessing they only send the email IF you are 'Upgradeable', hence why i've no email which prompted my calls to BT.

I'll wait or the email then. I did get a thing through the post so might call them and see since they aint giving me the service now, if they'll drop the price until they do.

I might mention how cheap NTL are too, see if they'll offer anything ;)

that's the problem John, because you live so far away from the Exchange, I don't think you'll get any faster than 512k from BT and others due to the adsl limitations. If you do then let me know!

Went into France Telecom today, they upgraded my Wanadoo broadband from 512k to 2mb at no additional charge and said I can upgrade to 8MB!!! in October when our exchange is upgraded also for no additional charge and when I got home it was already working, hmmm if only BT could follow their lead

Now I just have to convince them to speak English and drive on the "correct" side of the road
