Paper tax discs
Paper tax discs
So the latest news is that the displayed tax disc is going to be scrapped. The extra 10% for 6 months will be dropped to 5% and the new option of paying monthly by dd. I for one think the tax duty should be abolished all together and a penny a litre on fuel.

Re: Paper tax discs
I agree with adding to the fuel but for the moment I'm liking the idea of a monthly direct debit to pay for the road tax. All helps!

Re: Paper tax discs
I like the PAYG idea too, seems fairer, and, if you want to drive a beast, you pay for it.
doing some quick sums, i think we'd be looking at c. 10p per litre to break even on current levels...id still see that as a good way to go.
Open Question: What would be your upper limit?

Re: Paper tax discs
sums are based on the following:
270bn miles driven in the UK per year.
Av MPG 35-40 (could be over stating on this one)
£5.36bn collected in 2009 from road tax
£200m in lost revenue
as you can see, these have been done on the back of a fag packet so no picking holes!
