How is this possible?!

Post by House » Fri Sep 06, 2013 5:08 pm

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-23970047

I'm not sure what concerns me more, the fact it happened, or the fact that the AA spokesman is saying that there should be roadsigns on the bridge telling people to slow down because it's foggy

Now, some of you will quickly figure out I'm not a rocket scientist, however, I do know that when pea soup fog descends and I can't see past the bonnet then I should probably slow down a little for fear of being involved in a 130 car pile up.

Thoughts?!?

I live on the island so may be able to help explain a little bit. Normally if there is fog as you climb the bridge the fog clears but yesterday it didn't as you went up which is a pretty rare occurrence. Still no excuse for people driving like idiots tbh and a miracle that no-one was killed. Plus normally any sort of fog and the local plod normally shut the bridge and make everyone use the old road.

Some people have moaned there are no lights on the bridge but judging by how thick the fog was yesterday they would have made no difference.

It would appear then that 130 vehicles drove up the bridge in the thick fog hoping to find a clear patch at the top only to be greeted by a scene from Armageddon (the film about the asteroid, not the biblical place).

I've fitted a couple of lifts on the Island in Swaleside prison and one of the schools, so I've been over to the Island a few times and like that bridge!!

Like you say in such thick fog, car lights and road lighting would have been pretty useless!!
