CL55 AMG

Post by jeffw » Fri Nov 28, 2003 9:35 pm

I was driving round the M25 last night (around 7ish) on my way home from Oxford when I passed a CL55 AMG Merc which was pottering along on the inside lane. Didn't think much off it, just remember musing why they never seem to be going quickly (or even at the speed limit).....

About 5 miles further on I was in the outside lane behind a Focus doing 65 - 70 when the CL55 came steaming up behind me......doing 100 + ......then closing up behind the my car to about 3 ft....so I'm staring in my rear view mirror think tosser when the focus in front pulls over and I've got easy 400 yds of empty outside lane...

4th gear is selected and Captain Picard says 'Engage Warp Factor 8'

CL55 AMG is on it big style but the gap is opening up ......he's 2-3 car lengths further back and it's getting silly speed time with cars coming up on the outside lane....I slow down and the Merc gets even closer than before (if that's possible)....

Traffic clears in front again and I decide to let him go so I start accelerating away to filter into the gap ahead while CL55 man is on it again ....he misses the back of my S4 by 2-3 inches as I move over

I continue one while CL55 man shoots off down the motorway to the approach to the M23 junction where the traffic starts to slow down....CL55 Man waits to the last possible minute and cuts across 4 lanes of traffic (making several vehicles brake heavily) and disappears down towards Gatwick.

The point of this story is ...

A. A 'tweaked' S4 is a pretty fast vehicle
B. Don't play with CL55 AMG man 'cos he may take you with him

And his behaviour obviously proved what a big man he was.

I have to say this doesn't seem to be a CL effect. A couple of mornings ago on the A404 I moved over for a big-looking Merc, who had been keeping a sensible distance whilst I overtook some slow stuff. I realised I was in impressive company when I saw the CL63 AMG markings (briefly). I don't know how many of these there are in the UK but it was the first I've seen and I wouldn't say no.
