inaccurate speeding ticket - worth fighting?

Post by StuH » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:39 am

I was done fair by an unmarked car for doing 94 on a quiet motorway 29 days ago. Oh well, 3 points £60 fine was my first thought.

The speeding ticket records the offence code as G01. I can't identify G01, someone told me thay thought it could be a very little used code for exceeding 30mph. The notes on the ticket do state exceeded7 0mph limit though.

It also records my audi S4 B5 as an Audi Quattro.

The the ticket office hotline can't confirm anything because the officer hadn't handed in his paperwork. Surely the trafic cop is bound by the same 28 day limit i am. 29 days have past and still no sign ofr his paperwork?

I think the coppers mind was else where, do you think its worth challenging? any leagal eagles out there?

PS watch out for an unmarked A6 Avant in gunmetal grey and a silver BMW D530 saloon on the M4 between Newport and Swansea!

Unfortunately no mate, they have 6 months to prosecute if you where stopped by an actual police officer.
Your car make/model not being exact is not likely to get you off of it either, only if they had something like the number plate wrong could you say "I don't own a vehicle with that mark"

Seriously though, have a look on Pepipoo.com there are some more knowledgeable people than I on it all. But its most likely you been done fair and square TBH

A word of advice. Do not sign anything from a police officer when you are stopped by the roadside. I was issued with a fine about 2-3 months ago and because I never signed the paperwork, it rendered the fine void. The paperwork is actually a contract. Since nobody here would agree to anything that would not be in your favour, then why sign for a fine or any other document that they issue you with. By the way signing any police paperwork is OPTIONAL.
