XP sucks

Post by dog » Fri Sep 26, 2003 3:48 pm

My graphic card burned out las week and in a temporary insanity I got a new computer. It has XP professional on it. And my NEC Superscript 660 printer does not work anymore. No driver is available as it is a ?GDI printer. I have heard that Windows 2003 is coming. Is it likely to solve my problem or I have to fork out big for a new printer?

It seems I just have to buy a new printer. I really hate wasting anything, especially a perfectly good laser printer

Have you tried searching for exactly that on Google ?

"NEC Superscript 660 xp driver"

It may find one for you.

I'm pretty pleased with it, and it does seem to figure out it's own problems eventually, as opposed to previous versions which just went pear-shaped and left you to pick up the pieces. Damn that blue screen of death!

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions.
I have done the google searc before I have posted here and it took me to the site that Fat Boy found and I got the answer of no driver available for this operating system. I have found a discussion that suggested that a Minolta driver would work but this is when I crushed the system and lost all my e-mails. (anyone knows how to transfer e-mails from one computer to another, I use Netscape 7.02)
So at the moment I am about to throw out my old but working photocopier and printer to buy a new multifunction gizmo. (Any suggetsion on which one?)

I forgot, I have also e-mailed NEC Australia who confirmed that there are ondeed no drivers for the SS660.
Should I ban NEC procucts or Microsoft?

I heard on Friday that there won't be anything out to replace XP until 'Windows 2005' ?

NEC for sure, people jump to blame MS but manufacturers are just as responsible for providing drivers (if not more so) than MS are. I like XP Pro, like Riz I've found it to be the most stable Windows yet, not having drivers for old hardware is a small price to pay for the reliability of what is there.

If you go for a multifunction, I like HP's kit, and they usually have good driver support for a number of platforms!

Sorry to hear your problems, I have a HP multifunction with network print server, spot on, definitely gets my vote
Can't beat a bit of boost!
