Star Wars Trilogy on DVD?

I`ve ordered the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD, obviously its a unofficial version as there wont be a official one out for about two years yet!
If anybody is intrested it cost about £27 incl P&P from the US, available at..... DVD2U Its a direct digital copy of the 1997 Special Edition LaserDisc versions with Dolby Digital 5.1 in widescreen. [img]images/rsul/17614-starwarsdvd.jpg[/img]

I`m not really a cinema person, just like my home setup and the advantages of dvd.
I`ve got a THX setup ready for the good stuff [img]images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

p.s. i`ve got around 140 dvds so far but my collections been onhold since when i bought my s3, slowly building up though, might even do a site with reviews on them, sort of like a resource site with readers comments etc... just a thought! [img]images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I will review these dvds once they come through the post, but as ive said before im not expecting pure dvd quality but just something to fill the gap!

Yippe! they arrived today which makes that a very quick delivery time. (they were sent from Malaysia!)

Firsty lets start with the picture.
I would say that the LaserDisc to DVD transition is ok but not really spot on, obviously they are way better than the VHS versions and they will fill the gap until the official ones arrive in the future.

There is noticable digital shading and pixelization on certain scences etc, but most of the film is very smooth and free from degradation!

I think that they have reduced the sharpness to compensate for the bitrate conversion from LaserDisc!

The Menu`s are clean and have good sound and include the trailers.

Each film is in widescreen 2.35:1 and has the following sound tracks and subtitles.
English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround (Also has EX tag)
English DTS Digital Surround 5.1 (Also has Matrix tag)
English Dolby 2.0 Stereo
Subtitles: English, Chinese, Malay & Thai

The disc covers and case art are almost official looking apart from minor details. professional job! [img]images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

The sound......
Basically i dont think that any of the Star Wars Trilogy were encoded in DTS, so they have somehow converted the Dolby Digital 5.1 track into DTS.
Personally all that i noticed was that the DTS track is recored at a lower volume....... i havent watched them fully or had my THX system running optium for a true geeky review....... but all i can say its definatly worth it if your VHS versions are on the way out. Come on Lucas pull your finger out and get the `real` trilogy done!

Might have to buy these as well - I'm assuming they are pressed rather than burnt DVDs? And probably Dual Layer - if they are on a single layer DVD it might expalin some pixelisation - then again a lot of stuff by the sound of it on them.

I have the downloaded DIVX ones burnt onto DVDs - not that impressed because it's only stereo sound.

They are dual layered and have acceptable digital picture and sound.... they are also professionally pressed and labeled up.
I think they could have done alittle better with the picture and sound but cant have everything [img]images/graemlins/tung2.gif[/img]
