Speeding ticket

Post by MCB » Wed Feb 14, 2007 2:25 am

Have to make a decision whether to contest the above, first ticket in a long long time so not sure what the score is.

Officer alone in car with hand held radar gun clocked me, gave me a ticket for £60 and I have to surrender license on Thursday to have three points added.

Just read an interesting article in last weeks Motorcycle News about a case won on appeal, when the boss of the company who manufactures a laser gun admitted in court – under cross examination that his guns can give incorrect readings.

License is clean so not entirely sure what to do, I presume the only way of contesting the validity is to hire a brief who will check to see if the gun was calibrated and he followed the correct procedure Etc?

Any help / links to websites with relevant info / good lawyers info appreciated.

Sorry about this. It's a bl**dy minefield. The old bill have to carry out checks before they use the gun against a calibrated source and the details recorded in their pocket book. The thing is, any defence of the case will cost you more than £ 60, but you will have 3 points added and that may affect your insurance.

You can buy the "Uk Driving Secrets" book and download it from http://www.uk-driving-secrets.com and this may be useful if you don't want to go to the expense of legal advice.

Otherwise contact Nick Freeman http://www.freemankeepondriving.co.uk fro more legal advice.

Hope you get it sorted.

Just between us though, was you speeding?

Ive had 21 points for speeding in my lifetime (something im not proud of) and each time hurts more than the last.

Definitely not your Honour!

And as I delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this I am getting some really interesting advice so chances are I will be going to Court to defend this.
