Engine improving with age

Post by TurkS4 » Tue May 20, 2003 8:22 pm

Gents,

Is it possible that our engines can improve in a similar fashion as the old Golf GTI's where they seemed to get better at around 50k miles due to the bits loosening up in the engine compartment.

Has anyone noticed that their cars are more responsive with age.

This is not aimed at the modded guys, as how the hell would you be able to tell

Hi Turk.

Yes, its entirely true, well for Golfs and RS4's at least, so I dont see why it should be less true for other models.

One of the German motoring magazines ~(Auto Bild??) ran a long - term test on the RS4 and figured the vehicle both when it was new, and at 100,000km.

The car was considerably quicker when it had the extra mileage on it. Dont have the magazine to hand though. Perhaps one of our German contributors could shed more light?

Cheers

Hi TurkS4
22k - that's barely run in. Your car's just going to get better and better. Mine's got 100k plus on the clock and you wouldn't think it the way she sounds and shifts! Have to say the noise of the 5 cylinder engine is seriously addictive on my car. Guess I'm going to get a good few years motoring pleasure yet - yippee!

There's a lot of truth in this.......just remember to change your oil regularly and to use a top quality oil

Got an M reg Audi. Do you recommend oil changes every 5k rather than the 10,000 specified in the service book? And for the newer beasts - like the 52 reg S3 I have an interest in?
